New Year's Non-resolution
I stopped making New Year's resolutions years ago because they were usually broken before the ink was dry. However, it is hard to resist the burst of enthusiasm and renewed motivation which the start of a New Year brings. Like many of you I have reviewed the successes and failures of the past year and have made adjustments; like planning my exercise sessions for early in the day.
Change of any kind is hard enough, and very often something happens to throw extra obstacles in one's path.
For me, it is this snap of brutally cold weather. The very thought of getting out of my warm bed to exercise when the temperature outside is below freezing is almost unthinkable.
Since I live in FL I know it won't last but in the meantime it is threatening to take the winds out of my sails. I try to warm up with hot tea or cocoa or hot oatmeal and focus on how warm I'll feel when I actually start working out. So far it's working. I've worked out 5/6 days for this New Year. That is a better percentage than when I was making resolutions.
I have replaced yearly resolutions with daily affirmations which help suppress the ANTS (Automatic Negative Thoughts); that is where success happens (or does not happen) - in the mind.
Brr! Time to put the kettle on and make another cup of HOT tea.
