I Can't Run Today Because.....

...it's to cold,
...it's to windy,
...I don't have the *right* running clothes,
...I'm tired,
...it's too late,
...it's...
...it's...

It's all a bunch of crap is what it really is!!
I just didn't FEEL LIKE running today.

*I can't* simply translated means "I just don't want to do it and I'm going to make up all the excuses I can so I feel better about not doing it"....PERIOD!

I can't run in the cold and wind?
...Ok, so for this girl who has been living in the milder Florida winters for the last 26 years, YES it's stinkin' cold and windy outside! But really come on....It's NOT that brutal!
It's 45 degrees and the winds are NW at 8 to 10 mph. My friends in the northern states, Canada, Alaska, etc are running in much colder, winder, AND wetter (snow) weather! Did it stop me when it was cold on Saturday when I ran my first race of the year AND got a new PR in the process?? NO!!

So, that is not a good reason for not running today.

I cant' because I don't have the right clothes????
...What does THAT mean?? I got clothes! And LOTS of them (just in smaller sizes now...LOL) Just do what my friends in those cold states do.....LAYER THEM! There is another excuse thrown out!

I cant' because I'm tired???
....Oh BOO HOO....POOR ME! DH woke me up earlier than usual. So I didn't get 8 hours sleep. I've ran on LESS sleep than that!....Can I have some CHEESE (reduced fat of course) to go with my WHINE?? Another excuse that just isn't gonna cut it!

I can't because it's late???
....Give me a break....it's 2pm! Now I'm just looking for ways out.
Definitely NOT a good excuse.

Well, guess what folks? I thought about those *I can'ts* and NOT one of them was a good enough reason to not do what I know I should do.

So, even though I didn't want to do it, guess what happened?

I took my I CAN'T attitude and turned it into an I CAN attitude.

And I ran 6 miles!!

Life IS Good!

  Way to go!! 6 miles after not wanting to go out at all is Fantastic! Keep up the GREAT work! I am definately getting back to running-will have to settle for the treadmill since it's approx -20 here for almost the last 2 weeks! I have been running the bare minimum since last September and it's time to start training again before the beautiful weather is here! Keep up the ambition!

    Suzette, it's a good thing you got over your excuses because you better be ready for some cold, rainy, wet weather in N.O. in February. It's our coldest month usually...but with the way the crazy weather has been this year, you might better pack your bathing suit, too.

    Way to go, Suezette! I went through those same excuses all this week and you know what?? When you run in challenging conditions (even though most people living outside of the state of Florida wouldn't consider them challenging!!), you get even more satisfaction from having done it!

    hehehehe...I would have said something...I ran at 4 am in 26 degrees with teen windchills and for a girl who can't handle the cold, like you...I did it...and I was tired, don't have the right clothes, etc! I am literally forcing myself out the door...another thing..don't think about it, don't give yourself the time to make excuses, just do it! I know you can...I witnessed you SHATTER your wall! You my dear are one awesome runner, so go kick some asphalt!!!

    WOOHOO!!! I'll have to email you for some running tips while in battle. I tried during the last battle and just switched back to my walking (fast and on incline). But I would really love to kick it up a notch just so I can eat more calories, LOL!! See you in battle, Suez!!!

    Way to go! Sometimes just forcing ourselves out for a run, when we really don't "want to" is all we need. Before you know, you've forgotten why you didn't want to run and are loving it! And if that doesn't work, try the old "15" trick. Run for 15 minutes, away from you're starting location, then run back, and at least you've done 30 minutes!

    And I'm sure you realized during and afterward that it's not really too bad running in the cold once you get started. Good for you! I'll be out at 5 a.m. in 20-something temps doing my last training run before Disney marathon...great opportunity to test out my CW-X tights and gauge the weather. You'll probably be dreaming, but if you're up that early, say a prayer for me. :)

    A 'high five' to you, girl! Getting out the door when you don't want to run is always the HARDEST part. I always find if I can just get myself out on the road, I enjoy the run. Congrats on a great 6 miler!

    Way to go Suezette! Some days you just have to push yourself and that's exactly what you did! I always tell myself "just go for 10 minutes" and I always, always finish what time I was supposed to do. Funny what our head tries to do to us. We just know better now thanks to spark people and the great rookie runners!

    Oh that sounds like all the self-talk in my had today and it was 22 degrees, but I finally got out of the house at 2:10 and walked. Had to - bought new cold weather workout clothes yesterday and except for the so called cold weather tights was toasty and pretty in pink. Life is good!
