2009 Recap

Sunday, January 03, 2010

I can't believe that it is already 2010! What a year 2009 panned out to be. I had some very high highs and the lowest of lows this year. The good and the bad are always what seem to stand out in our minds when we try to sum up a period of time.

I want to start out with some of the highs!! Here they are in no particular order:
I completed my first half marathon
I trained for and completed my first full marathon in honor of my father's bout with a brain tumor with chronic knee problems to boot!
I sold a house, two motorcycles, had two estate sales and didn't lose my sanity (at least not permanently!)
I spoke at the first ever Sparkpeople Convention
I ran my second half marathon and decreased my time by 9 minutes!
I was included in "The Spark" that was released on 12/29/09
I continued to maintain my weight
I accomplished the goal of being in the best shape of my life!
Completed my first triathlon
Deciding to pursue my passion of health and fitness by ordering the study materials to take the test to become a personal trainer
Hosting monthly outings for the San Diego Sparkteam
Successfully included strength training in my workouts
Made improvements in my nutrition by including more fruits and veggies

The lows:
My dad passing away on 6/19/09. RIP pop!
Having to handle all of the things that come with the passing of a parent.
Selling a house and two motorcycles and personal possessions of my father.
The passing of my father took a toll on my relationship with my honey (things are improving but it is tough)
Faced the holidays without my dad - handled it well but it was tough! He wasn't only my pop he was my best friend and biggest supporter!

I am sure that there are more highs and lows but those are the ones that come to mind immediately. I am excited about the New Year and all it has to offer. God helped me get through this tough period in my life by giving me all these other great experiences through SP! I couldn't have made it through without some fantastic SP friends. They stepped up and helped me when my own mother did not. I am forever grateful for this site and all it has given to me, especially during the toughest year of my life. Let's share this journey together in the year ahead!

I agree with Jocelyn, you forgot a couple:

Inspired countless people online and off, local and all over the country to do things they never thought they could (like run a marathon:D)

Encouraged others even when you yourself were in pain.

I don't know how I missed this blog! So sorry I am just now responding! Ahhhh!

You had some awesome highs!!! But, as you and I have talked about, there is nothing worse than losing a parent! I KNOW how HARD the holidays are, girl, especially those first ones. But, you know that he is your special angel looking down on you and giving you the strength to take care of all the business that you have to. I wish I was there to help you out because I totally know how it is to do all of it by yourself. You are a VERY STRONG, BEAUTIFUL, INTELLIGENT and INSPIRING woman and you can get through this!

Love you, girl!

Life changes so dramatically. Sometimes we realize it right away, and sometimes we don't until we pause to reflect the way you have. My goodness!

There is still so much to celebrate.
I wish you the very best in 2010, you deserve it!
I'm so happy to call you my friend!

Jocelyn

More accomplishments for 2010:
-You shared time with and cared for your Dad during the most important part of his life.
-You've successfully managed the enormous pressure and emotional stress that comes from his passing. You really have. (You have not come apart, even though at times you might have felt like it. I'm so very proud of you.)
