Enjoying nature!

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

Today as I looked out the back door, I could see the foxes in the backyard playing. They were just like two little kids chasing each other around the trees and running in and out of the woods. When they finally stopped to rest, one sat with it's back against a tree just looking around. They look very healthy with beautiful bushy tales. I have a feeling their den is not far away.

At times we have seen as many as 12 deer in the backyard. A few years ago, a fawn was born at the woods edge. I got to see it take it's first steps. I was in awe.

There aren't as many sightings in the colder weather so I do long for spring when I can sit on the deck and watch God's creatures. For now, I enjoy what I do see of the four legged creatures and make sure my bird feeders stay full so I can listen to the singing of the birds. Of course I feed the squirrels peanuts to keep them happy and my cats amused watching them.

My favorite moments are catching wildlife at play. I went to Moosehead for the first time in 2009 and saw a mom moose and her 2 babies (called cow and calfs/calves-help??) . they played on a dirt road, knelt down to lick salt off the road and generally had a good time. It was AMAZING and a gift to get a peek into a happy moment.
