Brain surgery done

Thursday, December 24, 2009

Time to feel greatful. I've been out of touch, all of the tests leading up to my brain surgery, which was on 12/16. Now it's all done, and I'm recuperating at home. Taking this time to reflect on what's important.

So I'm on tylenol only now, the doctors say that I bounced back very quickly, which I attribute to a healthy lifestyle. No weights for 4 weeks postop, but will start with some light cardio soon, about 2 weeks postop. Somehow through all of this, my weight stayed stable, at about 120 pounds. Too early to set those high goals, but am hoping to compete again this summer or fall, we will see. I do believe, I will say again, that my healthy lifestyle pulled me through quickly, as I was walking around the day after surgery, with makeup and all. I was also lucky in that they only needed to shave a little of my hair, at the base of my scalp, so it's not visible.

So the plans for now, short term, are to eat healthy and drink lots of fluid. Next week, will start with some very light cardio. At 4 weeks out, back into light weights, progressing upwards. Then I will set my goals again.

It's all a roller coaster- and as long as you get back on, you'll be alright.

Tess... you are such a trooper! I am very glad to hear that your surgery went well and that recovery for you has been speedy!

I wouldn't be too worried about setting fitness goals right now! You have much bigger issue to tackle before you should consider competing again! Being healthy is your number ONE priority!!!

I know you will get back to a routine when the time is right!

Bless you, Teresa!
You are an amazing woman and I wish for you only good things in 2010! emoticon
