Day 83, RAW/CLEAN eating diary...How can I be so good in my eating and so BAD with my wine intake?

emoticon Okay, I'm asking myself the question...How can I be so good with my eating...I'm VERY selective about choosing wholesome, organic (when I can snag them) fruits and veggies, and lean, clean fish or occasional chicken, turkey, or beef...but yet so HORRIBLE with my wine intake?

I certainly don't drink every evening, it's pretty much of a social thing for me...but once I take that second glass, it leads to a third, and gasp sometimes even a fourth. emoticon

This is definitely NOT GOOD...I feel crappy the next morning (today would be a good example) and this is even with a couple of FULL glasses of H2O and aspirin before bed.

Late nights and wine are not my friends! It's just sad that they go hand in hand with friends! I'm not saying that we hang out with lushes...but there is a storehouse of vino available at our events! I have to sit myself down and come up with a strategy, I'm NEVER going to stop drinking wine..that's just a given..but I do have to come up with a plan not to go past that second, or rare third glass. That's when things get sticky, and icky, and headachey!

I've tried a glass of wine, then a glass of Pelligrino, I've tried doing really tiny pours so I will just sip slowly and discreetly, I've tried wine spritzers...a little wine with a little fizzy water...and sometimes those techniques work just fine...but if it's a LONG evening such as last night when everyone is enjoying themselves over food and conversation...that's when my good vino intentions go off track...that's when I over-imbibe and pay for it the next morning...yep today once again would be a sterling example.

I wish I could capture this feeling and pull it up for recall right BEFORE that fourth slosh of the forbidden liquid trickles down my gullet..we have virtual everything, why don't we have virtual "You'll be sorry in the morning" pull up screens programmed into our I-Pods, or our I-Phones...what a money maker that would be...eh?

Well, I had fully intended on posting my clean fruitcake recipe today..but I'm looking at the ingredients and figuring they are WAAAAYYYY to long for today's task. I'll have to tackle them tommorrow. I'm going to go gargle (again) and look myself in the mirror the whole time and start mapping out a new 'party hardy' strategy...yep, you guessed it another party tonight...hold on for the ride! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I'm pretty sure I won't be drinking wine! I'm wined out! emoticon

    It sounds like we are all in the same boat... I over did it Chritmas eve but Christmas day I was mindful to drink a bottle of water and a cup of coffee throughout the evening. It really did help.

    Don't beat yourself up too much. I think Wine has become so acceptable that people don't look at it the way they would if someone drank 4 highballs. Understand? Hang in there and maybe this could be your New Year's Resolution - only two glasses of wine. Nurse those two drinks all evening and you won't have to eat a cucumber before bed. I never hear of that one but it sounds interesting.

    Bobbi, if you come up with a way to keep the second glass of wine from becoming a third, then a fourth, then a headache, could you come up with a similar solution for those of us suffering from a mouthful of sweet teeth? I would love to be reminded of how awful I will feel physically and mentally if I give in again and have too much of a food I can't easily control.

Hope you are feeling much better by now.

    You should seriously think about making your own. Making your own beer or wine is sooooo much better in more ways than one. 1) You don't have the preservatives and additives that they put in the stuff you buy in the liquor store. They have to put that stuff in it because they don't know how long that stuff will sit on the store shelf. It's healthier for you because you don't put any preservatives in the stuff you make. 2) Because you don't have the preservatives and additives you don't get the hangover the next morning unless you mix it with hard alcohol. 3) It's cheaper in the long run. It's not that hard you can get a kit and everything you need to do it with. You can even select what vineyard you want to get the grape juice from. The initial expense can be a tad much but in the long run it's much cheaper!! Since DH and I have been making our own beer we never get hangover's...again unless you mix it with hard alcohol. I can tell you where to go if you want look at the stuff. Just give me a holler! emoticon emoticon

    Well Bobbi,
Since I quit drinking over 20 years ago, I do not have that problem anymore. I do know about your good intentions going out the window and overindulging.
Someone mentioned cucumber slices. Them and Vit. B help alot. They do replenish the much needed nutrientz that the alcohol leached out of your system.
don't kick yourself too much. Enjoy the season and be glad it is only a week and it will all be over till next year.

    Don't beat yourself up too much, Bobbi. It's easier to overindulge when you're with other people. Just be glad that Christmas is only once a year! Drinking water in between glasses of wine is a good idea, so keep that up. Maybe try to nibble on your veggies and fruits to remind yourself that you're trying to watch what you eat and drink. Just a thought.

    Too bad about the wine. .. you will probably need to deal with it in a similar way as you do with overeating. Maybe hold off having the first glass for as long as possible? I know when I get alcohol in my system my common sense seems to be MIA ~ LOL. Take care my friend and have fun tonight. R.

    Since I don't drink I am not too knowledgeable about wine.But do they make a non alcoholic wine like they do beer. You have seen it is a problem and I am sure you will come up with a solution. It will be easier once holidays are over.Feel better

    eat a cucumber to feel better
and eat one before bed to prevent headaches in the morning . I read this somewhere.
. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices before going to bed & wake up refreshed & headache free. Cucumbers contain enough sugar, B vitamins, & electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover & headache!

    You know, I think it is a good thing Christmas only comes round once a year. We had a wonderful party on Saturday night and I did the same thing except with Vodka. And, now I'm trying to get in extra cardio to get all those extra calories off. But when it is all said and done, I'd still want to enjoy the friends company and partake of the Vodka. I'll worry about the rest tomorrow. Christmas will soon be over and will we really have the same opportunities to enjoy our precious time with close friends? Enjoy it and take two aspirins, then a mid-afternoon nap. You will feel as good as - well almost as good as new. emoticon

    I'm right there with you this morning after a holiday gathering with my girlfriends. And when i drink I inevitably overeat. I woke up with thoughts of "never again", then "never again until goal weight" and then "never again until my birthday" (in feb) and then... i started thinking about how much fun we had last night, how much we laughed and how many old great stories were retold (and embellished)...I will do it again; it was great fun, and hopefully next time drink more water.. and not have that fourth glass of wine..Moderation is a concept I tend to struggle with in many areas...
