Meaning of Christmas

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

This time of year brings many challenges for us. With the baking, the shopping, the hectic schedules, the visiting, the parties and all the other holiday events.

Sometimes we get so totally focused on the material aspect of this season that we tend to forget what it is REALLY all about!

It is not about the decorations. It is not about the Goodies. It is not about the gifts. It is not about the parties. It is not about any of those aspects of the material world.

It's all about the giving...not what you buy BUT of ourselves. The spirit of Christmas is that one second smile as we pass a stranger. The way a small child's eyes light up. The joy in our elderly as we hold open a door for them or help them across a busy street. The repect we give each other. It is the small things that we can do for each other. After all there is no greater gift we can give to others and to ourselves than the gift of ourselves.

Enjoy this holiday season everyone! Take time to give yourselves a pat on the back for your accomplishments. Think about what the real meaning of Christmas is for you and share it with everyone through your actions.

Remember that you may not know whose day you may change by just giving them a sincere smile....it will show in your eyes!

May the REAL meaning of Christmas be with all of you this season!

Your words are so true! This year our Christmas will be different. My M-I-L went into hospital 3 weeks ago with breathless problems. They still don't know what is causing it so she will be hospital for Christmas. Apart from myself and husband (her youngest of two sons) the nerxt nearest relation is an hour's travelling away which is difficult with our current weather conditions here in the UK, so unless one of her neighbours visits once a week, we are visiting every day unless the weather and traffic situations stop us from making the journey. We have therefore bought no presents (we don't have to get many anyway) but I have sent all the Christmas cards. We have not bought any extra food for Christmas, as we will probably be visiting hospital and will eat "something" whenever we get back home! She would have been with us for Christmas had she been at home so we will spend Christmas with her!

I wish you every joy and happiness this Christmas!
