What's up with all the sweets EVERYWHERE???

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

So I am at the office today working away as usual. At that point of my day the day had been going pretty well. To my surprise in comes a patient with a humongous gift basket. How sweet of this person :)
As I am thumbing through the goodies, I think to myself is there anything I can eat??? NOPE!!!! The only thing that was healthy in the basket was the wrapping :) So I held my ground and said no to the sweets!
As the day goes on more and more gifts pile up. All of it was food! I was very grateful that all these people wanted to do something nice for the office for the holidays, however- WHAT'S UP WITH ALL THE SWEETS!
I just don't understand why more healthy options are not available as gifts? I decided to do a bit of research on gift baskets at this point. I consider this work :) LOL. I kid you not every gift basket I found all consisted of nothing but crap.
Why is it this holiday is all about food? Don't get me wrong I appreciate the fact that people want to show appreciation toward one another with gifts. I just don't want food gifts! I understand that most people don't want a basket full of carrots, or a box of raisins. But come on gift basket makers at least throw something healthy in there!
At this point I was wondering to myself why are all these patients getting me food? I became such a girl at that moment, and began to psycho analyze people's kind gestures. I seriously sat there and thought people were bringing in all this crap because I am a plump princess. I kept on getting tempted and was not enjoying it! By the end of the day our lunch room looked like Charlie and the Chocolate factory! I can say that I did not try on single thing :)
Please give me your thoughts on gift baskets!

Oh how right you are....it is like being hungry at a university or college and you only have time to grab something from the candy machine or get a coffee bomb and muffin. And no I do not always want that old apple sitting in a corner. How about tuna salad and whole wheat bread without mayo, yogurt with berries, salads (not just eisberg), a boiled egg (not cooked until it is green).
I love giving flowers, they bring such joy. or how about a gift basket with different herbal and green teas. I do not like getting presents that I have to display....I have enough stuff to dust at home as it is. Sure candy is always sweet but how great would a gift certificate be for a lunch at the next slow food restaurant.
Hopefully many more will read your blog and learn something. I am good at work until someone brings homemade cupcakes with them to share, or Crispy Creme donuts. How can an ex sugar addict say no?
There are other possibilities, just think about SP. We get points and we can buy others and ourselves presents with them. Must better than a candy bar.
