My golden is lame in both legs

Tuesday, December 08, 2009

Last night on our way to bed, Sully tore his left ACL. Just like the first one a year ago, something happened on his way inside, he gave a yelp, and hasn't been able to put any weight on it since. Since he was still having problems with the right one, having to carry all the weight has bowed it outward.

It breaks my heart. He is only a dog --- I do know that, but he is my dog and room mate and a fine one at that. I'm waiting to hear from the vet right now. I can't afford another surgery, no less two of them so I hope there are other options.

Such sweet companions goldens are...all giving and asking nothing in return except a fetch or two. We could learn something from God's creatures.

Thanks for listening.

Just came across your blog and wanted to wish healing thoughts for Sully. I have two goldens now and a mutt, but my previous golden tore her ACL then surgery... then of course the other one went (was told by ortho that 33% of dogs that tear one, eventually tear the other). I was able to at the time do surgery for both knees, but know that I couldn't do that now. Previous to the first surgery, when Morgan initially got injured - she was just on strict bed rest... leash out to potty, etc and I believe was given rimadyl for a bit (or perhaps some other type of pain killer). She did fine for a good 6-8 months...then tore it worse :( but, maybe you can work out with your vet a better medication that would help it heal over time.
I wish Sully major healing thoughts.

Aaah blast Peggy - I was so sorry to read this about Sully. Been there and done that with my siberian husky years ago so I know what you are going through. My prayers are with you and Sully. Remember that our father is Jehovah- Jireh - God who will provide.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. My animals have always been my children, and it pains me to think about any of God's "children" in pain... I hope things are able to be worked out for your Sully...

emoticon Thoughts and prayers with you and Sully... my nearly 14 year old GSP Diamond gave me a scare last Summer, so the emotional struggles are fresh in my mind. She recovered, and I hope that's what happens with your Sully, too.

These wonderful creatures age faster than we do, and that can be heart-breaking. Courage.

He's not "only a dog" he's a living, caring, sentient being that you've invited into your life. I truly understand.

All my best for his health and recovery.

Oh, sweetie. I don't know you...I just saw that STLRZGRRL commented in my status, and I love doggies, so I just had to come say I'm so sorry. It's okay to be sad, scared, bummed, upset and even devastated when something happens to your buddy. Heck, they're more loyal, loving, selfless and generous than most of us. I hope you find a way to get through this with your friend.

NOT "just" a dog... but better than 95% of the people by any measure you can name!

How old is Sully?

I had some tough times with my Shadow over a torn ligament but I bought him what I hope was good quality of life with anti-inflammatories and rest...

He was 15 when that back knee blew out on him the last time and I was not going to subject him to a surgery... it's so hard to know what is the right thing to so for these guys... but I know you will find that pooch a way to get relief...

I am concentrating every positive thought I have right at Sully... Get better, pal!!!

I am SOOOO sorry about poor Sully. Our beloved goldens are NOT just dogs -- they are central in our hearts and lives and deserve that status with their loving companionability.

All the best to Sully for full recovery (at not too great a cost to you!).

The first thing I thought when I read your blog was "he's not JUST a dog!" but I see lots of others have gotten there before me!! I hope the vet has given you some options other than surgery to help him out. I'm so sorry, I know how hard it is when our "kids" are hurting! Please keep us posted. emoticon

I am praying for your beloved pet. God cares for them too. We had a golden lab and she was such a blessing to us. She finally got so down with arthritis that she could hardly move. It broke our hearts. Praying healing for yours.

They are our loyal babies. Doggie prayers for regained health. Depending on your available time, how about asking the vet if you could work off some of the bill at the vet's office and kennels? Might work. Be strong. -- Lou

I will be praying. I do not even have words to express how sorry I am that this happened to your wonderful Sully. My Lhasa, Shelly, is my best friend. I just can't imagine what it would be like if she were facing the same thing.

Please let us all know what happens.

Take care,
Dawn

Peggy, he is not ONLY a dog....
He is a kind, loving, generous creature of God who teaches human beings how we should act towards one another.
He is a friend who comforts you when you're sad and makes you smile when you need it most.
He is the most sane member of the family when most everyone else is totally dysfunctional.

I could go on and on but I know you understand.

I hope you get some good news from the vet. Give Sully a big hug and some belly scratching action from me. emoticon
