The first winter snow storm

Saturday, December 05, 2009

Friday morning about 4:30, my sister was awake and it had not yet started snowing. However, when I left my apartment at 20 to 7, it was already pretty miserable.

It snowed all day, the wind blew and it snowed and blew some more. It was our work Christmas Dinner last night, and I went by cab instead of transit. Boy the roads were sure nasty by then. I decided to leave around 10 30 or so, and called for a taxi. A few minutes later a taxi pulled up and I went out and asked if he was waiting for Linda and he said yes so I got in the cab. Another man came running out and said the taxi was already "for hired" but the driver said to him that he was here for "her" and his taxi would be along shortly. The man went back into the restaurant, and I went home. Then about quarter to midnight my cell phone rang, and it was the driver that I should have had. I felt really bad because I realized that I had actually taken that other persons cab (who was still waiting at that point), but not bad enough to want to turn back the clock and do it again. After all, I was already home and out of the storm.

Today, I had some errands to do but I decided that I was not going to leave my apartment. I didn't do much either, except take several naps, find a blanket and curl up on the recliner with my cat, watch TV and take another nap! My sister phoned about 3:30 to say that her husband would come over and pick me up but I told her to tell him to stay home because I was NOT going anywhere. She tried to talk me into it but I remained firm. Then I laid down and took another nap!

It is supposed to snow off and on all day today and into tomorrow. But I am lucky, I could live in Calgary, where I hear the snow storm is absolutely brutal.

Well is is 6 pm. and I guess I really should go get some supper. Hope everyone is safe and warm and out of the snow and cold.

Take care everyone!

I sort of hoping to avoid snow for a little while longer.... oh well... it's bound to hit sooner rather than later!

Glad that you made it home safely!

Late last night, it looked like it was going to be "real" snow and not just another dusting. I want the clean look of the first real snowfall. When it comes I am sure I will be wishing for that 4-wheel drive vehicle.

I feel your pain - we have a 4 1/2 x 12 foot snow drift on the road in front of our house and I don't think the city will come and help so I think we have to dig it ourselves. emoticon

Best Wishes

Glad all is well. It's sad about the taxi mixup but really not your fault. But cheer up - The snow will end soon (April)lol. Funny you mentioned Calgary - my son arrived home at midnight from Calgary and said that they had been behind a huge pileup on the Trans Canada that would have delayed his group for 4-5 hours had he not had a 4-wheel vehicle and was able to of road around it (with police approval I should mention). Ahhh, the beauty of Canadian winters ----and it's only just begun. Stay safe and healthy.
