Thanksgiving Week Like No Other

Sunday, November 29, 2009

Normally Claude and I do not do Thanksgiving. Claude has a brother and a sister in California. Our kids are too far away. Claude's parents are deceased, Mine are handicapped and they don't do anything either.

So to start the week off we thought we had found a forever home for Rocky. He is a dachshund/basset mix. He is three yrs old now. We are foster care parents. Because of our disabilities now we can no longer walk him and need to find him a home.

We finally found him a very good home. They have two standard sized dachshunds already. One of their females did not like him. So after the third fight they had, they had to bring him back. I had mixed feelings when he left and worse mixed feelings when they brought him back.

Then yesterday our friend from California stopped by, whom we have known since he was 13. We met him at our oldest sons 14th birthday party, Our son is now 34.He took us to dinner at Outback. He said since his company put him on the road for Thanksgiving we were going to have a feast.

So last night I go to bed about 10:30pm. I hear Claude jump up out of bed and stand by the answering machine. He ran back into the bedroom and was getting dressed. It was about 2:45am The neighbor called to tell us that a car had missed the corner and ran into our big tree out front. It took down the lamp pole the city had up there. That was laying across the front end of her car. Did not hurt the tree much.Darn it. We want it down.

She jumped out of her car and ran down our driveway, losing her flip flops on the way. She went through our gate, across our back yard, and out the back gate. She was bare foot, lots of poop out there. The alley is all rocks. Leaving the gates open. Good thing all the noise was out front. Or else the dogs would have gotten out if they had noticed the gates open.

I don't know what happened from there. I went back to bed around 4am. This morning the lamp pole is on the grass. there are lots of big splinters off it laying all over the grass. The tree is leaning slightly, with a few small dents in it. The tree is 40 ft tall and about 4ft solid around the bottom of the trunk.

All in all I have had a busy week for Thanksgiving.

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.

God Bless All Of You.

Cindy
