In Praise of Wheat Germ

I have finally figured out how to meet my requirements for magnesium and folate!. I've added some wheat germ to my oatmeal. It's yummy, too.

Two weeks ago I was having a real problem with sodium. Every meal plan I made was way over. Well, I'm not having that problem now. I think SparkPeople is a great way to learn about nutrition and proper eating.

Most of the time I find their meal plans interesting, but not what my husband would want to eat, even if I did. I wish SP had a feature whereby you could plan your meals with what you know you are going to have for the day, and then ask SP to make suggestions for the healthiest snacks and other things to go with it. So often when I add something to meet one requirement such as magnesium I go over in another such as potassium. Also, I'm always low in iron, but I add my vitamin pill and then I'm over. Hmmmm....

    There is a feature where you can do your own food. You can block the suggested meals and type in your own. You can even save certain meals into meal favorites and just choose that meal. It's a time saver! Thanks for the tip about wheat germ. I have trouble getting enough magnesium in my diet too!
