Oh yes, I finally did it! First huge personal goal met!

Sunday, November 22, 2009

To all Sparkpeople I thank you from my heart for your support. I have reached a personal goal that I thought I would not be able to achieve. You ready???!!!?!?!?!

November 21, 2009 I ran a 5k--- I ran it all the way, I did not stop, I didn't hesitate-- I did it! I feel something that I have not felt before.

In addition to all of the wonderful Sparkpeople that have supported me I have to thank Podrunner for helping me train, my family for listening to me go on and on about my running or lack thereof, Kathleen for inviting me to run, Monica, at Fleet Feet in Roanoke who fitted me for the superfeet that allow the heel to run, and the gentlemen of the Y- all the trainers that have been so supportive of me in reaching this goal.
I feel as if I should be standing on a stage receiving some sort of award! LOL!
I may not run fast, I may not be first, but I am a runner- watch out, here I come!
I still have my first 5k race on Thanksgiving Day. All of the anxiety about being able to actually run it is over. It will be what it is. I already know that I can do it. I pick up my race packet tomorrow.
Enough about me- what about you? What are your goals? Have you tried, and like me had to try and try again? How do you plan to meet your goal?
My next goal is simply to get stronger and run a 5k a bit faster. I have signed up for the Race for the Cure in april 2010 and plan to run several more 5ks prior to that date.
Thank you for your care and concern- your support and sharing your lives with me has allowed me to become inspired and dream about things I could never imagine.
I have the Spark!

Awesome!!!!! Congratulations on such an amazing accomplishment!!! My hubby is a runner and I have a closet dream to be able to at least run a little with him. I've NEVER gotten to the place where I could run. I can't figure out how to make the breathing easier (asthma), more painless. Maybe someday I'll figure it out!! But believe me, I couldn't be more happy to see your dream come true!! Well done!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

That is AWESOME, Janice!! emoticon You won't have to work so hard running on Thanksgiving because you'll probably still be a little bit up in the air over your success!! emoticon

emoticon I don't know about the stage, but I think you deserve an award!!!

Way to go! Congrats on reaching one of your goals... and good luck on reaching your next one!

I hope to be able to complete a 5K myself someday... though I doubt mine will be "running" (knee problems limit any running for me).

Anyway... Great job & Keep up the good work!!!
