I had a bad fall when I stood up to answer the phone this morning. My knee gave out and body followed. I found myself on the floor in the blink of an eye with my leg twisted under my body. My right side from hip to toes was swollen, painful, etc within a hour.
I called the hospital ER before leaving home to find out how long the wait was, if they were sending people to another hospital to be seen, etc. They would not tell me anything.
So, I took a taxi there. There were a few elderly people with flu symptoms in the lobby that had been waiting 3 hours to be seen when I arrived.
I was taken first since my injury took priority over flu symptoms. Everyone in ER ended up being seen in the hallway since there were no empty rooms or beds. If this is pre Healthcare reform, what will happen if it passes?
The male tech that came to take me to x-ray asked me to change into a gown. I was not about to change in the hallway and had him roll me into the bathroom.
Getting on the x-ray table and positioning my body for x-rays was agonizing. The first try caused spasm and me almost falling off the table. The tech positioning my leg caused me to scream. He decided it was better if he told me how to position my body and allow me to do it myself. He said I did well considering the injury, pain and screaming.
No brakes on the x-rays. I was diagnosed with bad sprains and given a leg brace, crutches, and pain medication. Then, instructed to ice, elevate, rest the leg and see my doctor next week. I saw the ortho doctor about this problem on Thursday. He schedule an knee MRI for Monday and instructed me to go to ER if something happened.
I was awarded gold level (500,000 points of exercise) at the gym yesterday. Now I can't stand without crutches.
I blew my diet too. I missed lunch since I was in ER and had to eat a candy bar so the pain medication they gave me would not upset my stomach.
Bummer of a day.
