Trying to stick with it

Friday, November 20, 2009

I only started with Spark last week but so far, I have had trouble sticking to the plan every day. One thing I have accomplished is eating breakfast every day. I have never been one to eat breakfast. As a matter of fact, I usually have to just force myself to eat in the mornings. Wish I felt that way other times of the day- LOL. I seem to do well right up till the time I go to bed. And then the snacks just seem to call my name. It is almost like I become obsessed with filling my face once I go to bed. I wish I could control it better. This week I have been trying to at least eat something healthier when I get the urge.

This may sound weird and I agree it is sorta, but at night when I want to snak, I remind myself of the story my daddy use to tell me of 'bloodybonesinthebreadbox'.. that scared the bajeebers out of me and I wouldn't go in the kitchen after it got to late..

I'm over here watching you says bloodybonesinthebreadbox...

RUN AWAY FAST!!!!

Now that I've got my silly side out for all to see, I'm on your side friend, YOU CAN BEAT THE SNAK DEMONs..

Aaah yes - I know this well!!! I completely relate! I PROMISE you it WILL get easier! I too was never a Breakfast eater - that has changed and it is now a habit... one I can't skip or I really AM hungry!

When I first started Spark - my first three goals were eating breakfast... working out 3Xs a week... and no more late night snacking! I know it sounds incredibly ridiculous - but I found tea or drinking water helped to tame the snack cravings... also - gum!? I know - I remember seeing it in the Biggest Loser and couldn't believe it - but hey... it really does!?

Anyway - all of that to say - you really CAN do this! It's completely doable! It's all about choosing YOU above everything else!

Spark On!

That's great! Just eating breakfast will probably help with the evening eating - keep it up! And planning for a healthy snack in the evening has helped me with that same problem. My FAVORITE right now is: slice a banana and put it in the freezer; put a 1/2 cup of vanilla soy milk (or skim milk or low fat flavored yogurt) in the blender and then add the banana. If you want more flavor, sometimes I add frozen pineapple or blueberries. Blend in ice cubes to have more bulk with same calories. That really satisfies me. Good luck!

Try filling up with 5 glasses of water. Or making sure that your evening meal is balanced with good proportions of carbs, fats and protein to keep you satiated or have a list of ten different physical things to distract you from taking that first bite, or read up the sparkpeople articles on motivation.
or learn about motivating self talk. tell your self you deserve the best and you will do whatever it takes to get it. Start small and build from there. It does work when you are ready to let it.

Don't beat yourself up! You have made one significant change, now try to maintain it and add one more change. The Spark in you will come through, lol........ emoticon
