Carin is my one and only baby girl (who just so happens to be a boxer). She, as all Boxers, did not come with nice long coats so she gets cold easily. At night, she starts on top of my blankets, either by my feet or sharing my pillow with me (I usually end up using her as a teddy bear when she shares my pillow, my boys think is the funniest thing). During the non-summer months sometime in the middle of the night she paws my shoulder so I lift the blanket for her to go under it (yes, she has trained me well), at which point she curls up around my legs. Last night she did this as usual EXCEPT she had an issue. She laid down and realized she was too close to the edge! She ended up on my really bad foot before falling off the bed. I tried to stop her, but she just weighs too much. I am not sure exactly how long she was on my foot but it felt like eternity, and it almost brought me to tears. She is really good about staying away from my feet, she figured out pretty quickly that my feet are no longer her pillows when she would put her head down and my feet would jerk away – she can use any other part of my leg, just not my feet.
For good or for bad Carin is a VERY smart young lady and she is very intuitive, I think she might have realized that unintentionally she caused me a significant amount of pain last night. When she got back on my bed and went under my blanket she 1) stayed on the wall side of me and 2) didn’t go past my knees. Poor little girl (at least this time I didn’t laugh at her!)
