Today I went to talk to the nutrition councilors at my school. They're 3rd and 4th year students dying to get some practice in their field so offer free appointments to other students who have questions or need help planning a diet.
For me, my problem now is trying to fit in enough protein and iron for the number of workout minutes that I am getting.
For now I'm at the gym almost every day and know that my body probably wasn't getting enough nutrients.
They asked me to write down what I've eaten for the last week as an idea of what I am missing and how I am doing... it turns out that they thought that overall my meals are good but I am not eating enough in general.
They also offered lots of good tips including adding tofu into my pasta when I cook and maybe trying to eat granola bars after I workout to make sure that I am meeting my calorie needs.
I made another appointment with them for next week as a follow up... I'm going to track my foods again and measure them as they asked and then I am going to try to make improvements and they will let me know how I am doing and if they think I need to make more changes or take supplements.
Overall it was a great experience. I met with one woman who has experience in this and there was a girl being trained who sat in. Both had good advice when I mentioned that I know beans and tofu are high in protein and iron but I dont really know how to cook them.
They also sent me home with a Canada's Food Guide in Farsi for my boyfriend from Iran.
Am off to go grocery shopping now and am going to try my best to follow their advice!
