Ready To Give Up Tracking This Goal..

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in 20 or more years. I can't even remember when I slept well, maybe as a kid. I can't see getting eight a day unless its included in a nap when ever I have time. I do absolutely everything right according to the suggestions. No eating or drinking late (I don't drink coffee or pop). Fresh air from windows, dark and quiet for the most part except when the neighbours argue and thump something around that must be on the other side of my bedroom wall.
So my Fast Break Goal remains forever unchecked. Why should I bother with it anymore? I am the kind of person that hates seeing a blank space lol. It will be interesting how much sleep I get on my trip to Hawaii. If its my job stress keeping me awake, I should sleep good over there perhaps. But that won't explain the last 20 years when I didn't have a job and was pretty much retired with no worries. I have tried melatonin and Celestial Seasonings Sleepy time tea. The melatonin was good in getting me back to sleep when I woke up too early. Its the waking up too early that gets me.

It is the PITS to not get a good nights sleep. As a NIGHT NURSE, that is something I guard carefully. I hear all the time from fellow workers how they can't sleep during the day. WELL....my theory on that is, if you SAY I CAN'T SLEEP to yourself all the time, or I HOPE I won't wake early, or whatever...you are feeding your subconcious the WRONG message.

I NEVER think that ever....To sleep during the day, all I do is take 2 calciums, 1 magnesium and 3 Valarian root caps. I also use a sleep mask, as I can't stand to darken the room. Ear plugs RARELY.

At night, I take 2 -3mg. tabs of Melatonin, and 3 Valarian along with the Cal. and mag. (Cal and mag help to soothe the nerves.

I rarely take benadryl, though it works, you build a tolerance to it if you take it all the time.

Hope that helps!!!

My DH has the same problem, has for years, even now that he is retired.

You know not everyone functions well on 8 hours sleep a night. Like my husband, for example, he functions best on 6 to 7 hours a night. Personally, I need 8.5 or 9. Everyone's different.

As long as you feel good and not tired all the time then I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Take care.

I'm so sorry you're not sleeping good. Benadryl use to work for me. My DH use to suffer from that, and it's not good for you. Maybe a doctor could help with a prescription.

    I agree too.

I must say I have to agree. 8 hours of sleep is only due to 5-6 hours of sleep for 3-4 nights! I cycle but don't feel deprived and go with an average of 7. I went to Hawaii! It is paridise. Where are you going and when? I went to 4 islands in 15 days. It was awesome.
