Longest Distance Ever - preview

While last Saturday was a true mental challenge, it wasn't too physically demanding.
Unless you count the flight or flight reaction, the 1/4 mile steep incline at the beginning, and the brisk pace (my quickest to date).

But, this a 14 mile test of the body. Mentally, I know I will complete it. Not quitting because my brain tells me I can. Physically, I'm praying I've done all my preparations properly and my body will be up to the challenge. I've done 12.5 miles, so this is only another mile and a half. If I can do 14, I can do the St. Jude 1/2 on December 5!

So, now....for fun, I'm wondering how many calories does 14 miles burn?
I'll wear my HRM (heart rate monitor) and blog about all the thrills & agonies.
Hopefully, more thrilling than agonizing.

My daughter runs half-marathons, and she and her friend estimate that they burn 100 calories a mile. I wonder if that will be the case for you?

Here's what's sad/funny about it, though. A half marathon? To me, that feels like monumental effort. Herculean effort! Enough effort that I'd want to chow down afterwards!!! But ... at 100 calories an hour, a piece of carrot cake wipes out a heck of a lot of miles.

So -- enjoy the run, bask in the sense of accomplishment, and celebrate ... on the smaller side food wise.

Good luck!!!
