Carrots & Celery. Eggs & Cheese. Jonesing for Coffee after 3rd Week. Weighin on Monday.

Sometimes the tips I read are so simple, and I read them and wonder why I never did them before. For example. I totally love my organic tortilla chips with hummus (from a store called Fresh & Easy). However, these do add up even when I keep them in my daily calorie range. Then I read a short little article on SP to substitute veggies w/the hummus. Now I do that instead of the tortilla chips and it has worked out so well. Not only do I get healthier snacks, but the carrots and celery are very filling snacks that have made my hunger so much more manageable (a big key to my beating the night munchies). This has been a wonderful boost for me in really keeping myself in a great range each day.

About a week ago, I eliminated eggs and cheese from my diet. Being the cheese queen of the universe, I thought this was going to be very difficult. Nope, not at all. I don't even miss it. I'm thinking that this will be a big help on weigh-in day. We'll see on Monday.

I've just completed my third week of no coffee. After going through a difficult detox period for the first week, my insulin has stabilized and everything is feeling very balanced and healthy. However, the pull to go back on coffee again has been huge. I'm toying with going on decaf. I know this is not the most important decision or problem in the world (smiling), but just something I'm dealing with.

My weigh-in day is on Monday. I've been working harder than ever in the exercise realm, doing a great job with food intake and keeping within my range, etc. Now, last week was the same sceanario, but I was up a few lbs and I lamented how could that be? We'll see what's up this week. I'm determined not to make the scale so important as I can see my body changing. Sooner or later, the scale will move as well.

    Have you ever tried Yerba Mate tea? It is a fantastic coffee substitute. My husband and I switched over several months ago. I used to drink 10 - 12 cups of coffee through the work day (no sugar but used cream and that's a lot of fat & calories). Now I have some Yerba Mate in the morning, later I might have some green, white, herbal tea and lots of water (of course).

    A long time ago (the last time I dropped 30 pounds) I gave up cheese and it made a huge difference. I didn't eat cheese for a few years and didn't even notice. Then one day it crept back in and here I am! I think it's a wise choice to leave the cheese behind. As for coffee, I've been off it for 10 years. The first three months were hard, and then I craved it for about another year lightly, but now it just tastes odd. Try a decaf tea (I really like the mint and the ginger teas). At first they will seem like a poor substitute, but eventually they will become really nice for you. Go you!

    If I could stop eating cheese and (as my SPals all KNOW by NOW!) peanut butter, I believe I would dry up and blow away... thereby achieving my goal weight of negative pound and a half so I can eat my way back up to 14% body fat...

    Well. I wouldn't likely blow away as I WOULD be anchored to the coffee pot so, unlike Watermellen, I have MANY sins to recant before I get my perfection tiara...

    It sounds like you will be getting YOURS pretty soon!!!

    Can't even contemplate no coffee -- like to say it's "my only remaining sin" (so not true, of course!!).

    And yup: love cheese too (although in reasonably controlled portions most of the time).

    Jesse, you are doing such a great job!! I give you great credit for eliminating cheese from you diet. I think I would go crazy!! Cheese is my chocolate!! Keep up the good work and the scle will eventually catch up with your hard work!!

    Good choices all around. I got my answer about why my scale didn't reflect all my good work when TOM hit yesterday. But when we're really eating healthy, it WILL eventually move.

    I really do love my cheese . . . try to limit it mostly, but don't really think I could give it up completely.

    Jesse girl you are doing wonderfully! As to your decision on the coffee; ask yourself why did I go off coffee in the first place? If you find your reason to still be valid now, I wouldn't do a substitute. It kind of reminds me of "NeerBeer" the "beer substitute" for alcoholics trying to get away from Beer. That stuff, as I recall, was HORRIBLE and made many just want the real thing more! I think you know where I'm going with this..TC and may your decision give you pride in your accomplishment..     Hey your doing very good to make all those changes in your diet.
    I drink decaf and the reason is the smell and the taste, I do enjoy drinking coffee and decaf is not going to hurt your diet as there are zero calories in coffee unless you add them with cream and sugar.
