I am so sick of living in a sub-basement. I feel like I'm in a fishbowl because a lot of people take short cuts across the lawn and if my blinds are open, they always stare in. The vertical blinds are some pukey purple colour which I hate, but came with the apartment. Also, it seems there is always slits between the blinds, and I guess I'm a bit paranoid about people being able to see in.

My sister and her husband came and picked me up today and drove me around to do my errands, then took me up to her place. I wasn't really feeling in any mood to socialize, but she insisted. I must admit , I did feel better. I spent most of the afternoon at her house while they went to a retirement open house for their chiro. Then we went to the grocery store and bought the makings for tacos.

I have never had the soft taco shells so they bought a small package of them, but as she can't eat flour, they bought mostly corn taco shells. It was really nice for a change of pace. So delish.

When we were coming back from the store, just a couple of blocks down the street from her place was a "For Rent" sign. I thought it would be great to be so close because I could walk to her place from there, plus I could get to work on only 2 buses. But sadly, when I called, the rent was $1,000.00 a month and the only thing included was water. The other thing was that the Living Room, Kitchen and Dining Room, plus a full bath were on the upper floor, but the bottom floor seemed to have just 2 bedrooms, but no bathroom. Yeah, I can see me trying to make it up the stairs in time in the middle of the night when I'm sleepy and "gotta go"

However, I would have thought seriously about it if the rent had not been so high. When will the rents start to come down! How long can people continue to spend most of their paycheques on rent! And it seems that a lot of landlords don't like to rent to single women for some reason, especially places with rent at the lower end of the spectrum.

It's slow going trying to find some place close to her, but I will keep looking.

Rents are certainly high. My youngest shares a townhouse with 3 other girls and they each pay $400... so a whopping $1600 a month for the 4 of them. Ouch. It includes their heat and water, so they just have to split the cable and internet bill between the 4 of them.

My other daughter is thinking of looking for a place of her own and is using Kijiji to look. Not a bad site. Have you tried it?

Best of luck with your apartment search!

You and me both are looking for a place! But I already hput in my 30 day notice with no place to go yet! Yikes! And over here there is no way you can get two bedrooms for 1,000 and another entire floor! My apartment is $1225 and has 1 bedroom and my computer is here in the kitchen area and I turn my head and see the living room. All included is water. I am responsible for elctricity and if I want cable and all that (I have no cable) and gas is so steep I just pass it up and use an electric heater for spot heating. I am waring a scarf right now! So yes- its tough. But I live in the san fransisco bay area so they can get away with outrageous rent. I was born and raised here so I dont plan on leaving. My family is here any how. I get rental assistance so that helps. My problem is finding a lessor who will take a housing subsidy because anyone with a subsidy is frowned upon. There isnt supposed to be discrimination but I had a landlord admit to me that the reason why people dont rent to subsidy beneficiaries is because they are usually "problem" tenants. Way to generalize! Okay- I will stop going on and On :)

So on Dec. 1st I better have a place to go or my stuff will be in staorage and I am hitting my moms house!

God bless and best wished on your housing search!
Mrs. K
