Thanksgiving FOOD for Thought!

Monday, November 09, 2009

A few years ago I put together my family's traditional Thanksgiving menu and calculated the calories in each serving!!

3 ounces of Turkey (white meat): 144 calories
Green Bean Casserole (1/2 cup): 116 calories
Mashed Potatoes (1/2 cup): 120 calories
1/4 cup Ocean Spray Cranberry sauce (jellied): 110 calories
Brown & Serve Roll: 87 calories
1 pat Butter : 36 calories
1 cup cornbread stuffing: 250 calories
1/2 cup Gravy: 56 calories
1/6 Chocolate Pie: 300 calories
1/8 of a Pumpkin Pie: 316 calories (not incl. Cool Whip)
1/2 cup Sweet Potato Casserole: 160 calories

Total: 1701 calories

And that's if you ONLY eat 3 oz of turkey and 1/2 cup of potatoes, 1 roll, etc..

Most people eat Thanksgiving dinner all day long.

I think we need to plan ahead for before and after T-day.

So save a few calories earlier in the week to spend on Thanksgiving Day.

And send as many leftovers as possible home with your guests!

Well, I was going to order dinner from Marie Callender's, maybe not. Thanks for the info.

Watched any good movies lately? I watched Hitman with Timothy Olhpant. Maybe I told you. Bloody, but good.

Hugs, Joan

Great Advice. I found out several years ago to use the strategies of banking calories and having the healthy food first to fill you up. Great Blog.

I combat this by staying to the meat and salad...I fill up on that and keep my calories low and my carbs low! It worked for me. (Canadian thanksgiving passed already!!)
