Struggling to Get Back on Track

Thursday, November 05, 2009

Between attending a convention where we had every meal out and catching the flu my diet and exercise program got way off track. The only good thing I can say about catching "piggie" flu is that I was so sick I lost ten pounds. For two weeks I was too sick to exercise or do much of anything else. Cooking involved mostly hot tea and hot soup.

I gave the evil virus to my spouse who thankfully did not get as sick. She was off from work for three days with a low grade fever and congestion. She still has the cough, but bounced back much faster than I have.

This week is much better. I am back to doing 20 minute walks at lunchtime. We even managed a slightly reduced workout at the gym yesterday. With luck I may even keep that ten pounds off. There isn't much danger of regaining it this month. I am preparing for my next cancer scan.

I'll be doing the low iodine diet until Thanksgiving, so all those tempting treats that come through my office are off limits. Unlike the usual reaction of my co-workers (they are experts at urging people to have just a little bite of the goodies) nobody tries to get me to eat something I shouldn't.

Expect to get dragged out to the gym again... you are not the only one trying to get back on track since the piggie flu.

It is so hard to stay on track when you're traveling! I'm going to see my mom for 5 days at Thanksgiving and know I'm going to blow my nutrition and fitness goals, but I've planned for it.

Sorry to hear you were sick, I'm glad you're feeling better and your spouse didn't get as sick. I'm terrified of catching H1N1. I think I'm a hypochondriac and imagine the worst.

I'm glad to hear you're getting back to your fitness routine, I think it's good that you're taking it slow. Don't worry, you'll be back to your normal routine in no time.

Good luck on keeping that 10 pounds off and take care of yourself!
