I had a conversation at work today with a coworker who nears the end of her 100 pound weight-loss journey. We were discussing that it's not easy, but it's not super-duper hard work. It's basically treating yourself as a part-time job. It is too easy to answer to others - "I have to do this for my boss/kids/spouse/family etc" - and it's harder to say "no" to someone just to do something for oneself. For instance, I know that I need to work out every day that I don't work a 12 hour shift, even if that means I don't get a project done, don't get the kids' scrapbooks updated, don't get the floor scrubbed, etc. I have a job, and I have my family, and now I have a new part-time job: myself.
