Nibbles are better than a Gobble.

Tuesday, November 03, 2009

I'm not a big fan of numbers. I've just never really understood math. I know that for some people, math just dances on the page... but for me - it's just a big ole brick wall. BANG, BANG, BANG goes my head. Blech.

So, when I realized that I can make the numbers actually HELP me in this journey, I sort of got a kick out of it.

I'd heard (somewhere along the way), that losing "just" 10% of your body weight can have a huge health impact on your overall body. Well, for me, that's a whopping 19 pounds. But I've already passed 5% (8 pounds)... and when I think about it, I want to lose 60 pounds total -- well I've already lost TWENTY PERCENT of that! (which is only 12 pounds, and I've lost 13!)

There are LOTS and LOTS of numeric milestones to find -- lots and lots of little-baby-tiny goals, that eventually will add up to a pretty big one. But if I just keep my eye on the next one, and then the next one, it may be so much easier than banging into the brick wall...

193 - starting weight
190 - 5% of weight loss total
186 - 10% of weight loss total
183 - 15% of weight loss total AND 5% of total body weight lost
179 - 20% of weight loss total
176 - lost 25 of weight loss total (15 pounds!)
...

you get this picture... it feels much more "do-able" to go from 183 to 179 than from 193 to 125, ya know?

Little nibbles are better than a gobble.
