P90X has begun!
Did anyone else start this week? I'd love to hear from you!
Folks weren't lying. Day 1 is all about the pull ups and push ups. First of all, I love doing the pull ups with the Bodylastics Bands. I'm not sure why the band guy in the video sat on the floor round 1 and got up on one knee round 2. I'll have to listen closely next time to see if I missed that. It was really hard to catch everything they were saying because I was so busy trying to figure out which bands/weights I needed to use for each exercise. It will take a little while to get my groove.
Some of the exercises I really hate using the bands. It's too uncomfortable to shorten them under my feet or to wrap them around my chair. Some exercises just need good old fashioned weights. Since my husband will be hogging the Bowflex Select Techs, I'll have to come up with something for me.
ABS! I started out rockin' Ab Ripper X! Until those darn Oblique V-ups...
The first day was tough. Starting day 2 with Tony saying this video is the "X" in P90X and "Welcome to the most extreme video in P90X..." was a little intimidating. It was great, though. I may turn into one of those sick people that like Plyo day. I wish I had paid attention to when I had to start modifying. I'd like to see myself get farther and farther into it before having to modify.
The folks in this video ROCKED! The human frog in the back, the guy with one leg, Blam... Holy smokes.
Mary Kathryn lunges...
Nothing will lighten a workout more than feeling like you are an SNL character! Ha!
One great thing that will come from P90X is eating breakfast. I've never been a breakfast eater before, and I'd like to develop that habit.
Protein shakes... oh heavens. It's going to take a lot of work to make those taste OK enough to make again. We doubled up the turkey bacon today and dropped the protein powder.
Are all protein bars that hard to chew? I made it through half a Muscle Milk Light Chocolate Peanut Caramel bar. The taste really wasn't that bad, but I can only keep chewing something for so long before wanting to gag.
We had a giant salad for lunch that was really wonderful. We used all romaine lettuce and added shredded carrot, chopped celery, fat free cheese, and Italian chicken. I made my Italian chicken by putting chicken breasts in the crockpot and pouring a bottle of fat free Italian dressing over the chicken. The dressing marinades the chicken as it cooks - so YUMMY. It's our favorite chicken.
A tip I learned here on SparkPeople is to put your dressing in a separate dish and dip your lettuce into it. I can't believe I only had 2 Tbsp of Ranch for that entire salad. It was a fabulous salad.
The snacks are too small on this plan. I may have to rework some of my veggie portions for snack time. I ate one serving of nuts yesterday before I realized that's a "double snack" and I'm not allowed to have it.
