Today my grandchildren are trick-or-treating. They are dressing as everything from a Chinese war lord to a cat. How I wish they didn't look forward to the junk they'll receive in their bags. How I wish more people would give coins, trinkets or small toys instead of candy. What are we teaching our children when we have them looking forward to thewe unhealthy treats?

I know, Patricia....not many kids in our neighborhood trick or treat anymore. More families and friends seem to be having parties for them.

I hear what you are saying. What we did when my son was young was to give him a certain amount a day. It wasn't long before he forgot all about it. Out in the trash it went!

I know what you men, Patricia.
But for kids, it's a tradition.
the candies can be locked away after all the fun and games.
