What a week

Friday, October 30, 2009

It's been quite a week! I have done well with my short term goals and I even went to boxing class too. Kenny our trainer has lowered the price of the class from $10 to $5 and that my friends... is a bargain!!! My friend that I go with said that I was doing well and that she didn't think I looked or acted like a 41 year old. (she just turned 30) That was a nice compliment! One of my co-workers also paid me a nice compliment this week. She said that she couldn't imagine that I was ever a smoker because I seemed too athletic and youthful. I accepted both compliments graciously and admit that it was hard not to down play them. I wanted to say ya, well I'm not that fit and I feel like I'm 80 a lot, but I didn't. =)

My husband went from a six figure income to the unemployment line last Friday. It came as a shock really. We had thought that we were going to get through this recession unscathed. Unfortunately, that is not the case. He has worked in the same job (2 different applicators) for about the past 26 years. He works in a specialty field in the construction industry and at one point we thought we would own such a business (thank god that is not the case or it could be much worse). With lenders not lending, it has been difficult for builders to build, which in turn effects all the other trades. So needless to say, money has become very tight. We have a son in college and one not far behind. I have a good job that pays well, but I am considered part time. I sent an email to my boss asking for more hours, or if possible to be hired on full time within my current position or anywhere within the corporate or surgical side. I will hopefully find out where that might lead next week. In the mean time, my husband has some ads on Craigs List for some things and Denver got hit with a major snow storm, so for the past 2 days he and my son (who is on fall break this week) have been out shoveling peoples driveways and sidewalks for some cash. It all helps! I think that it was great that they got to spend this week together. My husband is somewhat of a workaholic so it was nice to see them do some male bonding.

Hard to believe that tomorrow is already Halloween! I'm looking forward to seeing all the ghosts and goblins, witches and princesses tomorrow. Even though their costumes will be covered up with parkas. I am also really looking forward to the end of daylight savings time and I am hoping that I will sleep that extra hour away. I have been having troubles sleeping for the past couple of months. Not sure what the problem is, but I sure do miss those zzzz's. I actually went to the doctor today to talk with him about it. I had been taking the Tylenol PM's and they worked at first, but not lately. He gave me some suggestions and a prescription. I also received some great suggestions from some friends too. So with a combination of things I am hoping to find a way to sleep through the night and fall asleep faster. I joked that if I were to fly out, they would charge me extra for the bags under my eyes!

Well, I realize that I have just typed quite a long blog, so I will end by wishing you all a safe and happy Halloween! Remember all things in moderation. ;)

I love that your hubby, even though he just got laid off, said "I'm gonna be proactive and shovel some driveways!" And you immediately started looking for solutions too. It's easy to get sucked into the "why me?" feeling. And props to you for taking those compliments graciously! :)

I'm glad you didn't downplay those compliments because you ARE that fabulous!!! I'm sorry your family is going through a tough spot with money, but it sounds like you all are handling it with the right attitude. I love the saying that says, "Learn to thank God for your misfortunes, and they will become your blessings." It's great that your son & hubby are getting some bonding time. I hope you're able to get your sleep troubles worked out real soon. I also want to thank you for all your support on my journey to quit smoking. Yesterday made 14 weeks! Hugs~M

Oh Tanya, I'm so sorry your going through this! I'm speechless.

My neighbor next door a construction contractor hasn't had a big job in months and is talking about leaving town to get work out of state until things pick up.

Everyone that came from your side of the state to the conference I was just at had lots to say about your snowstorms. We were expecting 20" and only ended up getting 8" apparently it hit your storm and dumped it all there instead. Sounded like a nice start to a good snow year though.

Hope you have lots of goblins at the door.

What a week, indeed! Your attitude is super and you and DH will get through this, I'm sure. Will keep the job situation in prayer.

Great weekend!

Well, it definitely has been quite a week for you and your family! Very cool on the compliments, too!! We do these things for ourselves, and yet it's nice when others notice. You are doing great!!!!! I wish the best for your hubby and hope he finds something quickly. It's tough to lose one's job with a kid in college, that's for sure.

Keep up the great work!

Sorry about your hubby's misfortune, hopefully he'll be snapped up with an even better opportunity real soon. I am glad you are kicking butt at kick-boxing and looking fab! That has to feel great. Now get on catching those zzzzzzzzz's
