I won't Take This Lying Down!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Back in Early July I took a bad fall. I slammed my head into my van, knocked myself out, gave myself a concussion, cervical strain, Thoracic strain, Lumbar strain, Messed up my left hip, and last but not least messed up my left knee.
I am one of the unfortunate people who don't have medical insurance. Although, fortunately my Personal Injury Protection coverage on my vehicle came into play.
Because I was getting into my car (getting into or out of your vehicle) PIP covered this accident. Thank goodness I didn't know what I was going to do at this point. After almost 6 weeks passed I was able to go see a orthopedic doctor who ordered my MRI.
Second appointment with this DR. he tells me the radiologist suspects a torn meniscus, but he doesn't think that is the problem so he wants me to do 2 months of Physical Therapy and Massage Therapy to work it out. And make an appointment to see him in 2 months. I follow along with what he wants and I do all this therapy. But, my physical therapist says there must be something wrong in that knee. It shouldn't be swelling and having discoloration after this length of time. I still can't bend it all the way and it hurts to touch in places. Maybe I would benefit from a TENS machine because of all that I am still dealing with. The doctor replies he doesn't do TENS machines, as if he was the one to buy and use this machine. My response was, he is not paying for it and he is not using it. I AM! He allowed me 2 months of rental.
Wow, he is a control freak! Now he want me to go through pain management therapy. That just says, "Live with it".
My gut says something is wrong.
I told the office that I am not seeing a pain specialist I want a 2nd opinion. I refuse to take this lying down. No doctor is playing God with my health and well being. Got 2nd Opinion appointment lined up. Insurance said... good call. Therapist said... good call. I was called by the therapist from pain management he heard my story and said... good call on the 2nd opinion.
I am feeling that because I had no medical insurance my first doctor wrote me off. Little did he know my PIP coverage was a very high amount. If the new doctor says I tore the meniscus and I require surgery. The first doctor really messed up. I won't take this lying down.
Wish me luck!

    Oh gosh, that's terrible!
I hope the new doc finds out what's going on and sorts you out quickly!

Best of luck!

As others have said, we've got to be our own STRONG health advocate. After any doctor (even a good one) leaves the examining room with you, he's on to the next patient and their issues. Wishing you luck and the right diagnosis, along with the natural health knowledge to support your recovery!

Our bodies are a gift to us and we need to take care of them. Good for you for taking the responsibility for your own health and well-being. Be sure to tell us what the second dr. finds.
Hugs Shirley

You go girl! I don't let doctors tell me what to do when I know something is wrong too! It's your body, and only you can feel it, they just guess. I know why they call their busines a "practice" because they are practicing guessing! LOL

Good call on the second opinion too!

I really feel for you. I'm on recovery from a torn meniscus, actually 3 tears. No amount of therapy is going to help. A orthopedic surgeon worth anything can actually feel if it is a tear and the mri should confirm that. It is such a painful injury. Something is definitely wrong so hopefully this ortho can help you out. So glad you have good pip. emoticon

Good for you! We have to fight to get the care we need and it is a battle well worth fighting. So glad you had the good PIP. Keep us posted.
