Attention Spark, I am through with little streaks of tracking a few times a week and watching the scale inch upwards!
After hitting 150 pounds in March I sloooowly but surely gained weight to reach 169(!) pounds a little while ago. Now, after much consternation and a few false starts, I'm ready to go again, and have challenged myself to train and get ready for a Snowflake 10K run on December 20th, all proceeds to go to the Salvation Army. Yes, I'm back again, and this time I plan to be much more consistent.
Today I started training using my lovely new heart rate monitor that I got from SportChek yesterday, it's called a Mio Elite and just uses a wrist strap, no annoying chest strap involved. I started off at the gym in a Spin class, which did NOT work out- I got 5 minutes into it and felt like I was gonna DIE, so I hopped off the bike and went and hid in the ladies room until the nausea subsided. I think I'll be sticking with the treadmill, tyvm.
After that I did 35 minutes on the treadmill using the workout plan provided in the Mio Sense booklet that came with the HRM; today was 4 minutes walking, 1 minute running, in cycles. For an additional challenge I would raise the incline while I was walking, from anywhere between 2.5 to 5.0. The HRM said I burned 653 cals between the treadmill and the little bit of Spinning, which I felt was high, so I knocked it down to 600 calories overall.
I feel really great and really motivated. The race is just under 8 weeks away and I'm PUMPED- the longest races I've ever done have been 5Ks, and even then I couldn't run the whole thing, I only ran about half and in little spurts. But then, I wasn't training and was walking in cold.
I'm going to try to blog more often, because it keeps me honest :P Here's to consistency!
