I need to shed some excess teams

I have decided that I am spending too much time on Sparks mostly because of the volume of emails I get.

Like everyone else, I am sure, I started with just a couple of teams, but as time went on and I visited other members Spark pages, I would see a team that sounded interesting. Later I would try to find the team again but didn't have the name just right, or couldn't even remember the team name. So when I saw an interesting team, I would join right away thinking that if I joined now, I could always "check it out" later.

Well it is just getting to be too much right now, so I have decided to cull some of them from my line-up. Some I will set to not get emails (when new members join) and others I will set so as to not get any emails at all. Later on I may rethink this, but I have to do what I have to do for now.

Hopefully this will allow me to spend more time for my hobbies and other things I don't seem to have time for right now.

    I can relate to this. I can't spend time on any team on a daily basis, but I am still trying to decide which teams fit me best. I've dropped and even re-added teams.

Don't overwhelm yourself with having to interract with all teams daily... it's ok to lurk sometimes. Just make sure you interract when you can, I think it helps.

    I hope you don't quite the ones we are on together. I would miss you. One thing I learned is that there is a spot to book mark them. That might help you. I will look at exactly where it is but, I think it is on the top of the page just after the leaders names. Look around and you will see it.

  For me right now, 2 teams is all I can handle. When we take on too many, we can't give them the attention they need. I know what you mean Linda. You have to do what you have to do.

    I have gone the no email route and try to check my sparkpage daily. It can time consuming but when I don't spark I miss everyone.

    I agree, I am a member of 6 right now and even at that sometimes I find it hard to keep up with them. More time for you is the best thing you can do!

    I know it can get overwhelming. Sparks is just so great, you want to absorb as much as you can, but you realize that you need a life too. I overdo sometimes but I just love it. I have a cut mine down to 5 teams.

    I did the same thing. What I did was look at the level of activity on the team. If a team did not have a good level of current activity, I dropped it. It seems that the teams which have more than one leader have the most activity. Although I did come across one team with three leaders and no activity for over a month!

    I like the idea of just dropping the notifications. Then if you haven't even visited that team on your own volition, you can just drop in after a while. I probably need to do this, too. Thanks.

    Most people do this. As a team leader when I see someone join I want them involved. If you can't involve yourself in the team on a daily basis, drop it.

    Everything in moderation!! I could spend all day on this site easily!! I also need to look at each team I am in and see if I can use my time wisely in them. Over time I have received invitations to join various teams, some of which I don't spend much time in anymore.

    Boy, can I relate! I'm starting out with SparkPeople, and it's overwhelming if one tries to absorb it all at once--the technical stuff AND the emotional side of it, although all very worthwhile and positive. What came to my mind by Day 2 is how necessary good boundaries are with this great new thing in my life, like anything else. What a gift!--yet another opportunity to set good boundaries and take care of myself! Balance is what will make this a great addition to my life, and I deserve nothing less, as do you. Good luck with figuring it out--I'm rooting for you! emoticon

    Too much of a good thing? Take time for yourself and maybe visit one team a day. Good luck.
