I Got Motivated By A Marathon Runner!

Saturday, October 24, 2009

My run was a little tough this morning. emoticon
I had worked out on the elliptical for an hour yesterday and I guess I worked some muscles that I haven't been using. I was sore and it took me a while to get my rhythm going. I could feel my legs on mile one and I was starting to slow down already, then I saw a gentleman that I see running almost everyday (he is really running, not jogging like me) Anyway, the first time around I just said Hi, the second time, he yelled that I was doing good. I yelled back that I was doing eight miles today and he gave me a thumbs up. I am so competitive that every time I saw him coming on the other side of the road, I would be in my running mode until I had gotten past him. ....Vanity, lol.

When I was finished with my exercise, I saw him again and had a chance to talk for a couple of minutes. He has run 7 marathons and although he doesn't compete any more, he still runs everyday. He is in his mid fifties, so that really motivated me to work harder. He gave me a few tips for my race and I was pleased that he thought I was doing well. Who knows, I may become a runner yet!

Have a good day and stay strong!

Aaaaaaaa so awesome..... Running will ALWAYS be a part of our lives... How proud he must be to say that he's run for that many years. For me, its even more impressive than the marathons.... I have a year under my belt, and I feel about it like its a little plant that I take care of and will grow into a strong tree that will have deep roots and nothing can tear it down!

Thanks for the comment on my blog darling... Hope you're well! *hugs*

You are already a runner, even if you don't see it. You are running in a 1/2 marathon. Something I'm scared to even try.

Sounds like some great motivation huh? Good for you on kicking butt on the 8 miles! That's funny about kicking it into gear when you pass other runners...I so do that too, I make sure I break into a sprint & don't have the painful look on my face when I pass other runners. Half Marathon here you come!!

LOL, you bet when I cross paths with someone who is running not matter how tired I am I will be running also! FANTASTIC on the eight miles! YOU ARE A RUNNER!!!! If you are moving faster than a walk you're a runner, no matter how fast you go. My pace is slower than yours and I refuse to call myself a jogger. These legs are doing the best they can, as long as I'm trying I am a runner and so are you.

How neat to meet a 7 time marathon runner, you couldn't have gotten any better tips.

The running community is a supportive one...(generally)...glad that he gave you some tips.
You are doing so well - keep going one foot in front of the other.

Good for you. I may have to slow down because my foot has been bothering me. I think I may have to see a doctor.

Congrats on your 8 miles! That's wonderful! Don't you LOVE runners? It's always so inspirational to see someone still running, despite their age. It just goes to show you that anything is possible. Keep up the great work :)
