My favorite way to distract myself while working out

Saturday, October 24, 2009

Well, usually, working out IS my distraction...my distraction from the daily grind and all the stress, aggrivation, frustration, annoyances and so on and so forth that result from it. But, if I somehow NEED a distraction while working out, I usually have the iPod function of my iPhone turned on and am listening to music. Also, I do a LOT of thinking while working out. It's like meditation for me, really. I think a lot and figure things out that I couldn't figure out any other time because my thinking was rushed or I was too flustered to think straight. Another thing I've stuck in my bag of distraction tricks lately is I received 2 free audio book downloads the other day, so I downloaded the new Dan Brown book, Lost Symbol, and a Neil Gaiman book. Audio books aren't normally my thing, but I figured if I got tired of my music I could switch to the books. OR...since I like to go for loooooooong walks a few times a week, I could listen to the books while I'm walking.

Audio books - what a great idea. I always listen to music when walking and watch music videos when exercising at home. Audio books would be a great change-up.

Ive never tried audiobooks but thats a good idea since listening to music does get tiring after a while.

I love audiobooks! Our local and school library have lots to choose from. Most are on cassette, so I have an old walkman I use for when I go walking or work out in the gym. Our school library just got several new audiobooks on iPod shuffles (we won a fitness grant!) so I'm looking forward to checking those out. Try it...I bet you'll like it! Everyone likes to be read to!
