Well, I didn't wait until November. Clothes were fitting much looser, and I decided to take a quick peek this morning. And was surprised to see the scale marker on 166! Happy dance!
Loosing weight slowly plus normal fluctuations means some changes are very slow to show up. After my discouragement two weeks ago, I decided to concentrate on keeping steady. Not letting it affect my food choices. Not letting it affect my mood. I'm in this for the long haul, not just to lose weight, but to eat sensibly and nutriously, and to exercise regularly, but not obsessively.
This weekend was the first SCA feast I've gone to since I joined SP, and I was wondering how I'd do with five courses. Turns out it's all about portion control and making choices. I'd eaten lightly for lunch (red beans & rice) eating more beans and less rice, and I'd been busy all day. I did eat the fresh bread, but no butter. Skipped on the cheese squares. Saved the fat for the bacon wrapped green beans. Oh, those were wonderful! Ate several of those! Took a small slice of the chicken & onion pie, cut a roasted chicken breast in half and took the smaller "half" plus a small serving of the "cheesy noodles", carefully eyeballed the serving size of the beef stew going for the 3 oz amount, and added extra carrots, then finished it off with a small slice of apple pie. Yes, it was delicious! And I didn't feel stuffed, like I usually do after feast. I wanted more, but I didn't take more.
October is an anniversary month in several ways. I started my first professional job here in Louisiana Oct 1, 1981. I started my current (and hopefully last) job Oct 2, 2008; the day before was when I started with the thyroid treatment. Many changes, much personal growth, and now I'm in a much better place in all ways than I was 12 months ago.
I'm looking forward to spring and my new wardrobe!
