Trying something New

Monday, October 19, 2009

Lately, I have been struck by how many people PLAN how they are going to lose weight during a specific period of time...say this week...or this month. As part of their plan, they describe goals which may include drinking so many cups of water, keeping their calories within such and such a number range, exercising for "x" minutes per day...things like that. I have kept track of many components of my health on SP, but I have never set a weekly/monthly goal in my blog on a regular basis.

While reading these blogs, which seem to show direction and forethought, I found myself thinking, "Huh, How about that?" I'm not kidding. So, I'm going to give it a try (she said with a determined nod). And I'll tell you why because I'm in a telling kind of mood. It's because I like to accomplish goals and I like graphs. I like to watch the line on the graph move up--much more entertaining to me than watching TV and a better use of my time. Graphs are a cheap way of rewarding ones self without having to drop hints to outsiders or complete strangers so that they'll notice you achieved something.

Here are my goals for this week of Oct. 12
Drink 12 cups of water per day
Walk 5 days per week, 30 min. per day
Run 3 times this week, 30 min. at a time
Strenth train 3 days
Eat 6 Veg/fruits each day

And there we go; done and done. Now I have to enter my goals so that I can track them and watch the lines move. Don't get me started about pie charts....

Good luck with your (very attainable) goals. You CAN do it!

(Speaking of pie charts... I REALLY like that nutritional pie chart at the bottom of the Printable Nutrition Report... don't you?)

Oh go on, tell us about the pie charts!

I have been taught that an important aspect in goal setting is setting achievable goals. Through experience I've also learnt to try to focus on a limited number of goals, admittedly if, like me, if someone has problems in a host of areas this is easier said than done! I've avoided posting my goals in this way, but this post has prompted me to put them up, because it actually might help me to keep them achievable, as in amount and action needed for each one.

I'VE BEEN DOING THE CHARTS AND IT NICE TO SEE THEM MOVE. I'M REALLY IMPATIENT, SO THEY DON'T MOVE QUICK ENOUGH, BUT THEY ARE MOVING. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CHARTS.
