In search of sweet tooth replacement!

Thursday, October 15, 2009

I am seriously in search of a good chocolate replacement. I love these chocolate chocolate chip cookies at my BJ's (like a Costco's). Mrs. Field's version of course trumps those! emoticon

I need to find something healthier but still yummy (is that possible) to replace this need. When I have lower calorie/fat substitutes, I tend to do better.

I have heard of Vitamuffins but have never tried. Are they any good?

I would appreciate any suggestions that would help me get back on track!

emoticon in advance!

Also, try chocolate biscotti. I've seen them with 110 cal. and 160 cal.

This and the other suggestions I've made really work for me, because they aren't sweet/rich enough to set me up for more cravings.

In general, I find the more I eat chocolate the more I want it, so as a general rule, I don't eat it. And I've gotten to the point where I don't miss it or crave it.

I take ripe bananas and peel them on put them on a plate in the freezer. Once frozen I will put them in a plastic bag till I want a banana popsicle.

Now if I need a chocolate fix I will put a heaping teaspoon of dark baking coco powder on a plate. I will either roll the banana in the coco powder or just dip it in the coco powder with east bite. The bitter chocolate against the sweetness of the banana gives me my chocolate fix.

What give up chocolate? Are you nuts? lol No? You mean we have to give it up. . I have to think about this for a while. . How about moderation? What's that I ask? (Obviously I don't know moderation, or I wouldn't be in this shape!) It's all or nothing, right? I know when I get a craving, I try to eat vanilla flavored yogurt. That's sweet to me and that helps.

I've not heard of these vita tops...where do you get them? I see you can order them online, but what stores carry them and where are they located in the stores?

I don't know how to replace chocolate at all. Kind of wish I did. I do give in to it but my cravings are for plain old hershey milk chocolate candy bars. I know that statement probably didn't help anything.

I like the suggestions HEART4ADVENTURE is giving. I might have to find these vitamuffins. I'd not heard of them till you said something. Now I'm curious.

I do eat the Jell-o pudding sugar free cups sometimes. If you haven't had the real thing in a while it will give the fix you are looking for. I'd suggest abstaining from the sweets for a while, then start trying the sugar free versions of stuff. You'll probably find they seem just as sweet at that point. I don't think any of the healthier, sugar free options taste good if you've had the other in front of it.

I've heard suggested before that if you are craving something very specific, eat it. Otherwise you might go hunting through enough other stuff that you do more damage to your calories for the day than you would have giving in.

Hopefully this is a little helpful. emoticon

Have you tried just some raw cocoa powder in a mug of warm skim milk with a little sugar or sweetener? Not only does the warmth give me a great feeling of fullness, but it's good for you and you get your calcium in.

I love the vitatop, triple choco chunk, chocolate with peanut butter chips, even the brownies are yummy, you can eat them a number of ways sometimes just with milk, or I get sugar free dark chocolate pudding and put over the chocolate vitatop and add some coolwhip and you can even add a banana so it's like your having a banana split sort of, frozen cool whip on top also seems more like ice cream, you can warm the vitatop or brownie in microwave and top with some thawed frozen cherries and cool whip... the vitatops were a lifesaver for me when trying to curb my sweet tooth along with the choco pudding, but I think the Hungry Girl created flavors you may have to order online at vitatop.com

Oh sometimes an apple with peanutbutter helps the sweet tooth (not the chocolate craving),

sometimes for me, it's just something simple that helps--whether a piece of toast with honey, or yogurt...just something to curb that sweet craving...
