Yes, it's pouring rain outside, but I'm still doing a happy dance!
On Fridays, we wear jeans to work, with a library t-shirt. During the summer months here in south Louisiana, I usually don't wear jeans at home, preferring a lighter weight fabric. And last Friday, I was traveling to an SCA event, so it's been two weeks since I wore the jeans. The size 18 jeans that I had to buy in January, and hated having to buy. They were too big! Even with a belt! I had to change into one of my older pairs, and, even fresh-washed shrunk, they fit and fastened easily!
I have been so looking forward to this day, and it's finally arrived!!
When I signed up with SparkPeople, I decided to go with the slow 1 lb a week program. I knew it would take longer, but I also knew I needed to re-learn, or sometimes learn for the first time, what good, balanced, nutritious eating habits were. One of the reasons I liked the SP program was the emphasis that it wasn't a diet but a lifestyle change. When evaluating exercise options, I looked at them long-term: what could I see myself doing in a year? In two years? In ten? It's not enough just to drop pounds now; what will I do to keep the excess from creeping back?
Yes, gym workouts would burn calories faster, as would running, but that's not who I am. My husband and I used to bike ride when we were younger (heck, we started dating via rides around town!) but we haven't ridden our bikes in 20 years, and finally admitted that we weren't likely to again. We both enjoy walking, and enjoy the walking park the town built several years ago. That we can see ourselves doing for the next 20 years.
So, it's been slow, but it's nice to see bench marks. I loved it when I finally got down to 170. I'm looking forward to reaching 160 in another month or so. And I can't wait until these size 16 jeans are too big! Hmmm, I think I still have on the shelf size 14 jeans, but after that, I might have to go shopping again...
