Spreading the Spark..to naysayers

Monday, October 05, 2009

I have shared Sparkpeople with several friends and family members.
I tell them what I have learned and what has changed health wise for me,ect.
Ya know what I have heard:
I am too busy to track all of that stuff. {OK so stay busy eating fast food, processed food, and sitting on your butt because that is working - right?}
That wont work for me I have too many health issues.. {doh! They forgot who they were talking to!}
If I do that then I will have to do this.. {change is not easy but it is easier in steps}
I cant exercise I hurt too much already. {I have osteoarthrytis in my left ankle that no amount of pain meds can ease the discomfort of - if I can do it - you can too} PLUS it is proven that exercise can help ease discomfort and pain.. not all types but some

If I can do this anyone can do this - tracking becomes easier over time - as you learn your serving amounts - You just know what you know and it is easier to stay within your calorie limits and to find opportunities to get a little exercise.

Have you shared Spark and gotten good or bad responses?

    I have shared with those who have asked me "What have you been doing?" "You're losing weight!" "You look good!" I have told them about the wonderful system I have found. Four people looked interested, then either I never heard from them again about it or they said they were too busy to even look at the site. Three people have started it and are very happy with the site. If you REALLY, REALLY want good health, you use the site and it works! If you don't want change, you just make excuses or ignore the kind advice. I wish everyone out there good health and a long active life! emoticon

    Wow I like your blogs, I have to visit them more often sis! Nice topics...

I have shared the spark. The boggest problem I run into is people dont seem to make the time. I have felt like "why dont they do it, dont they realize this wil change their lives?!?!?!" I just want to get them to join, its so simple... Spen a little time hanging around... Perhaps turn of the tv for 15 minutes a night and trade it for the wealth of info and support spark has to offer.
I am trying to get a church team going, slowly but surely I am making progress. I am trying to get the first church team to post on the san fransisco bay area team. I finally had one friend who found the time and now she is trying to get someone else. he spark spreads once people find the time.... I think we are all so used ot gimmicks and money hungry scammers that spark would sound like just another one of the same to many. Sparkpeople however is the farthest thing from that possible! Spark is great. I feel you sis!
Thanks- Blessings in Christ-
Mrs. K

    I get asked how I've lost my weight at work...and they always look so dissappointed in the answer....hard work and careful diet. They just so want to hear that there's an easy fix.

    I have tried to spread the spark but everyone I know just gave me excuses on why it wouldn't work for them or they don't need it. I think it is what you make it. If you put a lot into it you will get a lot back. emoticon

    I've shared and gotten mixed results with using Spark, but almost everyone has found something here that inspired them to make improvements. My mom and my neighbor, although not regulars logging in are reading articles and have begun exercising regularly.

    I have spread the Spark with mixed results. First to my daughter, who did join, and she is doing well. She spread it to my DIL, who is onboard too. I have spread it to several co-workers as well. The one who needs it the most has apparently ignored it. One joined and is really getting into it - she says I inspire her. Two more have joined but don't have SparkPages so I don't know how they are doing (although one asked me today how to set it up). The biggest disappointment to me is my SIL. She and I used to live near each other and were both each other biggest supporters as well as worst enemies when it came to weight loss. She had bariatric surgery a few years ago and lost most of her weight but has now put it back on. After spending a long weekend with me she said she was going to join. Don't know if she ever did, but she recently told me that she has too many digestive issues (from the surgery) for this plan to work for her. It's too much trouble to figure it out.

It's terrible, but I can't wait to see her again after I lose more weight!

    I have shared sparkpeople with a few friends and family. Some use it regularly and some don't bother. Seems to me only the people who are serious about getting healthy make time to use this tool.
