Yesterday I went up to Peak Academy. It's a fitness/health measuring facility on the University of Utah campus and is apparently part of the physical fitness department, situated right in the middle of the soccer, baseball, basketball, football area of the campus. (And RIGHT SMACK in the middle of a crap-ton of construction, which was a pain in the butt during rush hour traffic!)
They have a Bod Pod there, the only one in practically the whole state. You have to sit really still and "breathe normally" and they somehow measure the amount of air that you displace and also the way the air flows around you. I don't know how. I think it's magic.
Anyway....(drum roll, please!) ... my results: 19.3% Woo-hoo! I was disappointed that it ONLY measured that. I was hoping for a total RMR and all the cool info that another bodybuilder on the site received, but this unit wasn't equipped with that feature and they charge an extra $30 to sit for five minutes on the other machine. No thanks.
Anyway, for my age, 21% is considered "very lean," so I wasn't even on the chart. 19% is "very lean" for a woman in their thirties and the low end of "lean" for someone in their twenties.
"Essential fat" for woman is 12-15%, which means that your body NEEDS that much fat to function.
So I rock! Woot!
