Mindfullness looks like the theme for the upcoming month. I've been using it at school with my student, and it's time to use it a lot more in my own life.
I'm off to a great start this week, after feeling unsuccessful last week. I'm keeping a close eye on what (and why, and when) I eat, making sure I stop when I'm full and don't start again till I'm hungry.
Already, I'm seeing that I rarely need to finish the whole portion I've measured out. At lunch yesterday, I ate my salad and soup, but not my apple. I had half of a luna bar for a snack, and didn't even want the rest of that! So I saved the apple and luna bar for later, and wound up being at just 700 calories before dinner. (Worked out great -- I got to have dessert!). Today, I didn't end up eating my granola bar at lunch, and couldn't finish my beef stew at dinner.
It's amazing how much you really notice when you turn off the auto-pilot!!
In non-dieting news, life is feeling good! I'm teaching a series of mini-lessons for the next couple weeks on Latin Roots at the middle school... I'm nervous, but very excited, because I haven't formally taught in 3 years, and I've NEVER gotten a chance to teach language or vocabulary like this before. Aside from that, I'm really building a positive relationship with my 1:1 this year... There's plenty of work to do, but everyone is seeing some great progress in him, which makes me feel really great about the work I've done and the months ahead.
Also, Miles and I got some exciting wedding news from his parents which essentially DOUBLED our budget, so now I really CAN have the wedding of my dreams, instead of being stuck with the ONLY wedding venue within a 50 miles radius that costs less than 12k.
Hopefully, this lack of stress will help me out on the eating front, too! Speaking of which, there is homemade applesauce (made from apples picked 2 days ago) calling my name for dessert -- yummmm.
