My stars it's been quite the journey since friday!
Friday I got the chance to jump/dig into a cake as part of a winning a spot on a radio contest. I had a wonderful time! I showed up on time, took the trolley from work and just made it. My son, his father, my sister and her husband were all there. I do have pics but my son is resistant to the idea of sending them to me. He says that they are down loading now, maybe by the end of the blog. The cake was large, and very "iced". As soon as they said go I dropped to my knees and threw my hands in digging through layers of cake and lots of gooey icing. A true food addicts dream come true!!! As I was screaming and digging away I saw movement above me- oh my stars, the guy across the way had toppled the top layer- it's headed my way. It was really some great fun. I was in a wonderful mood.
We then stood with our coins that each were marked with a number. I was lucky number 19. You are never going to believe this----- I won a trip to the Homestead. Goodness, I looked that up online- what a place! I started feeling like a loser because I don't have any romantic interest to take with me on such a trip. I have now decided SO WHAT!!! I asked the person that encouraged me to enter and "Sparked" me on! We'll have a great time at the spa and enjoying a girls day out! I really thank the radio station and my sweet Joann for all of her encouragement!
Next is sneaking into the Y. I had a plan. Where is a cake covered person going to go to wash all of that off??? My former spouse was kind enough to bring our child to watch the cake jump- and he parked really far away across a busy intersection. I walked with pride past the coffee shop, across the intersection, and over to his truck with icing and cake dripping the whole way. I had left my vehicle at work and could not drive home with all of this on me. I am a proud "Y" member and had him take me to the bottom entrance. Sadly the venue beside the Y was having an event so I got some more wild looks as I tiptoed up to the door at the Y. The guy there recognised me and said to come on in and take that shower. I have my locker there and only one other woman was in the room- she got a big kick out of the look I was pulling off! Another woman came in from the pool- she did the eye aversion thing and didn't speak. I found the entire thing terribly amusing and did make certain that I cleaned up the areas I used!
I then had to get back home and do the try to go to sleep thing because my son and I volunteered for being helpers at a triathlon. My motive was to get the 100 points promised to the "Lime Lite Ladies" team if I volunteered. The Ladies are my team at the Y for the "Y not be a loser" competition. I got quite the experience. I have never been to a triathlon before. I figured out "swim, bike, run" pretty quickly. I did not realize how dizzy you can get swimming. Some of the competitors were struggling with balance after getting out of the water. The college teams started first, boy can they move! I was so impressed with the entire event. I first was stationed at the "hand the runner the water" station. This was a disaster. My handing off water to running people that just got off a bike leaves a lot to be desired. I wound up filling up cups for the table and picking up the cups that were on the ground. It drizzled the whole time. I then got drafted with my son to serve food. I was better at this by far. Watermelon, cantaloupe, or banana- this I could do. I have to say I have never run into a more polite group of people. Everyone said please and thank you- the college students were awesome. Everyone was respectful and even thanked us for volunteering. What an amazing event. I felt like I should have paid them to let me be there. I hope I get to volunteer next year!
And I should add, I have been dreading week 5 of my couch to 5k program. I got "stuck" here last time and was feeling defeated before I started. I wanted to try it yesterday but the rain was heavy and I did not get to the gym. I DID IT today!!!! I did week 5 session 1. Completed by me. I had to go to work after so I finished and then what??? If I was to ever get back to my vehicle I would need to do more than fast walk. I decided to go back and do week 2 as a cool down to my car. I covered 6.15 miles in 67 minutes, walked 12,510 steps. Can I get Woo Hoo?
As a treat for conquering this fear and actually doing it I am going to preorder "The Spark". I would not be the person that I am (a little less of thank goodness) without SP and I want to give back and let others know!
Cake jump pics to be posted after resistant teen sends!
