Another new goal weight, *sigh*, maybe for the last time?

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

Well, I was down .6 yesterday when I awoke and I just decided the Blood Bank has to take me as I am.

A different person tried to hook me to the machine before getting a pre-count (why bother if the machine wouldn't accept me?) and she had no problem at all. Of course, I was also up 2 lbs so that could also have made a difference. There must be a cutoff on when the machine will take people.

So I am now going to try to maintain 120 since that is where I am today. She felt confident that I will be able to do platelets next Thursday! The Blood Bank has had a severe hours change this month due to limited funds and they can no longer take as many platelets per day! They already have 5 scheduled for tomorrow so I am scheduled for Oct 1st. How sad that the recession has hit them too! I am thinking the cost of blood will be going up for patients. That is awful. I certainly hope things turn around soon with our economic situation.

Other than that, everything is A-OK with me!! I hope this blog finds you all doing well today!

Blood is free to recipients up here in Canada and I donate whenever my health permits: but sometimes have been refused because of anemia (I'm close to vegetarian). I'm a big believer in blood donations too because on several occasions when I needed transfusions the blood was available: someone had given. My husband feels the same way and his donations are more reliably accepted: he has given about 60 times. Good for you for persisting with the donations and managing your weight so that you are permitted to give!

Good for you:) How do they figure what you should weigh? Is it done by your BMI or is 120 and over the weight?

emoticon to the weight and the ability to give platelets. You are obviously where you need to be.

I read that donating blood burns 600+ calories!

That is great you are able to donate. I donated whole blood the other day. I used to donate platlets, but it wore me out.

Sounds like a step in the right direction with the Blood Bank! Too bad funding has to be cut for such a vital service!
October 1st will be here before you know! Good luck!
