Nutrition After Gastric Bypass?

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

I think I need to do more research on what is the best nutritional makeup for those of us who have had Bypass Surgery. I know I'm supposed to eat lots of protein, but sometimes trying to do that seems to throw me into the land of higher calories - red meat in particular. BUT I wonder if that's OK because I think the bypass keeps us from absorbing all the fat like "normal" people. I know that when I eat more protein, I seem to lose weight. But it feels weird, because often I can't get in any veggies/fruits because I'm too full from the protein. Any ideas anyone?

Fitness is going good. I had missed working out for several days and I could REALLY tell when I went to the gym tonight. I can honestly say that I'm getting to the place where I MISS exercise. That's a great feeling!

I think doing more research on the best combination of foods for your situation is a great idea. Also I would make sure you are taking a multivitamin and extra calcium supplement to lower the risk of not getting in all the nutrition you need. I think you should talk to your doctor and see if he has suggestions as well. This is not something I've looked into or dealt with, so I don't have any other practical advice.
Good luck!
