We went to Rosh Hashanah services in the morning, had a lazy afternoon, and then went down to sit with the turtle nest. A big crowd is building, we seem to have new people every night right now. And we were again all lined up on the length of the nest field, just waiting for the hatchlings to pop out. Which, of course, they didn't. This was night 69 for them, so we're getting toward the end of the normal incubation period. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing. But some of us (like me) are starting to wonder if there's a problem. And DH has been saying for days that the turtles will be a no show. So many factors could go wrong. We just keep waiting.
But it was a nice night, with first some clouds and then the stars - no rain, just a breezy night that blew the mosquitoes away and left us wearing light sweaters or jackets. Probably all of 78 degrees, but when a normal day is 85, well, 78 and breezy feels chilly.
I'm not sure when we stop waiting, and chalk it up to nature.
