To NEVER "Go There" AGAIN!

Thursday, September 17, 2009

These pics are from as close as I can find among my highest weight days of yore. Sadly (now!) I don't think I can find any of myself when I was at my highest weight of around 450 and I was SO scale aversive that I don't have a clue how much I weighed in any of these pics.

I'm posting these for my own benefit, as my own "switch," if you will, to represent what I NEVER, EVER want to see happen again to me! These are the pics I need to think of if I EVER have thoughts of straying, skipping workouts, eating unhealthy foods!

I'm declaring to myself and the world that I'm just NEVER "going there" AGAIN!

Here's one from 1980, prior to my major inflation, but already pretty hefty:

Next these are from 1981...noticeably larger!

and here's one from "around" 1984-5...not certain of the year:

Not the greatest quality pics as they are scans of old photos, but certainly enough to serve as my own personal 2 x4 when I need it!

I went on to my highest weight in the early 1990's, resulting in a gastroplasty (stomach-stapling)which enabled me to drop from around 450 to upper 200's. Then? Back to the bad, old habits...binging on sugar and refined carbs and bouncing back up to the mid-300's by around 2004-2005.

Since then I have been losing weight the old-fashioned tried and true way, via healthy food choices such as SERIOUSLY upping my veggie intake and avoiding all sugar and refined carbs and through EXERCISE, a concept that heretofore was NEVER part of my vocabulary, let alone daily itinerary!

Hope this is helpful to some as a testimony of what we ALL are capable of doing!

I KNOW it will be helpful to ME to keep me on the right track...for the rest of my LIFE!

Don

I think having the pics helps remind you of how far you have come..it was hard work..dedication..too much to go back again!!!I hate pics of me and rarely had any taken..which in some ways is sad looking back at family pics and I was hiding..:(

I wish I could find the Pictures of myself like you did. Back in 1995 I was only 99 pounds when I met my husband and ended up going up to 188 and slowly going down.

Thank Don for the encouragement.

Just a few more reasons to give you a big WTG!

Funny to think that exercise was not part of your vocabulary - you sure talk about it a lot these days! I think you're hooked for life!

Blessings and good weekend

Bravo! When we want something bad enough it becomes possible... you look great and your enjoyment of life will outweigh (ha) any lurking desire to backslide. A little healthy fear is a good friend. Cathy

p.s. it was great coming home and finding the spark of light goodie. nice.

Funny, I was just trying to take 'pics' from a video last week for the very same reason. The video has me at one of my highest weights, and I just don't have many pics of me at that point... I would throw them away when the pictures were developed, saying they were too 'dark', or 'out of focus' or some such b.s. They were just too.... fat. Yup, too fat.
I'll keep trying to find some to scan or grab to get on my pages.
Never again.

I need my sister to go through her photos and see if there are any good "before" pictures in there... The only halfway decent one I have is from my father's funeral in 2006, and I'm standing sideways (because I'd already learned how to minimize my image).

I was quite lens-averse at my heaviest and became very skilled at avoiding whole body shots. (Mostly by making sure I was the best photographer in the group so I'd have to be BEHIND the lens, instead of IN FRONT of it.)

By any chance, did they take photos of you before the surgery in the 1990s? If so, they might be in your medical records...

I think it was a good idea to post your pictures. I brought back two boxes of pictures from South Dakota (they are from 1970 to 1983) I haven't started going through them yet.I have ordered a scanner so I can upload them. We'll see what we find.
You gave me the push I need. Thank you.
