Can Zyrtec allergy medication cause nightmares?

Wednesday, September 16, 2009

I keep making more and more changes in my life to reach my goals. After two nights of nightmares taking Zyrtec at night (instead of early morning), I have realized in a big way that I have been taking Zyrtec too long. I was prescribed Zyrtec long term and have been taking it for years. When I looked up patient experiences, I saw my story there, too.

I didn't know about a long list of reactions that other people have had, including serious weight gain, anxiety, depression, itchiness, even changed personality in children, and more. (My dentist years ago had let patients know that antihistamines can cause dental problems.) The only bright side is that it pushes me to work out hard at the gym. I'll do that any way.

For some reason, it just never dawned on me to go online to check Zyrtec although I have checked other items. I bought a new bottle of it and just took the first one. It now goes to the back of my medicine chest, and I will let my doctor know.

Now I know. We have all these great sources online for checking prescription and over the counter drug information. I found the patient experiences to be invaluable, too. I am still in shock by what I learned this morning, but I am glad I know it. It is always best to check with your doctor if you have concerns.

I'm always concerned about medications. There aren't any real long term studies to know what happens to EVERYONE when they take them for a extended periods of time. I would be interested in your source. I like to keep these types of sites just in case.

I'm so glad you found the information. It will be interesting to see how you change when the drug is out of your system.
