How I got to where I am

As a young boy I was very active, I was in the scouts and did a lot of hiking camping and other outdoors type activities. I would go to a nearby city park where there were lots of things for me to do. And I played organized sports as well as nieghborhood sports; so you can see that I was not a couch potatoe.
After getting married, starting a family and with work I did not do much of anyting physicaly and my diet became eating as much of anything that I wanted. So in the next twenty years I gained @ 60# and was terribly out of shape. @ 15 yrs. ago I began going camping and hiking with some other men and realized how unfit I had become and decided that I had change the coarse of my health. the first thing tht I did was to start waling and the second thing was to stop drinking carboated drinks and replaced them with water, as time went on I would add other activities so that I had slimmed down and was quite fi., But I was getting some life insurance and had to have some lab work done. The results revealed that my cholesterol was out of whack so I began working on my diet. I have been successful doing it wholely with diet & exercize. Without DRUGS . Finally last June when I went for my annual check-up is the first time that my Dr. has not suggested that I try some medicatiion. He told me to continue doing what ever it was that I was doing.
I have been a member of SP since June of 07 and am not thilled with the amount of weight that I have lost to date. I work in construction so I have a physical job and I bike, run, hike,walk and lift weights regularlly. My diet is not perfect, but I do eat healthy 95 % of the time and still drink lots of water, but the weight does not want to come off. I have heard many times that it is harder to take off weight the older we get and I guess that that is true. I also have had what I concider a major set back in that my primary execize partner moved awy @ 2 years ago and I have not been able to find anyone to work out with regularly So if there is some one in the west Daviess County area that want a work out partner, let me know.

    I agree with Nancy15. Try tracking what you're eating. You might be surprised by how much food you're actually consuming. It sounds like you have a great attitude and want to live a healthy lifestyle, so if it is too many calories, I think you'll be able to fix it. Good luck on all the changes you've made so far. It is harder to lose weight the older we get, but it shouldn't be impossible.

    I was going to suggest the same thing...using the Nutrition Tracker. I'm not very good at guessing what I'm eating and if it's within my ranges. If I used the Tracker religiously, I usually have a good week.

  You didn't mention whether or not you are using the nutrition tracker. It is a terrific tool. You can specify a low fat diet and it will give you suggested menus. It's a good guide to let you know if your diet is what is holding you back - you may think your diet is great but try recording EVERYTHING just for a week or two to see if it really as good as you think.
