Eye- and mind-opening experience at the store

Sunday, August 23, 2009

I was browsing at the BCBG store yesterday, since they had a 70% + 20% discount going.

A friend was shopping for a dress for a party that night - she's one of those people who always looks to be about a size 2 or 4, never gains, is always dressed wonderfully, looks in great shape, all that.

So she tried on several dresses, and asked my opinion. On a very fitted knit dress, she said "I'm not sure, I think this makes my cellulite show too much."

The woman is 30-something, about 5'6", probably weighs in at 110 or so, and thinks she has cellulite? The size S dress was too big on her and she had to find an XS, while I'm searching around for size L and that sometimes doesn't fit - and she thinks she has celllulite????? I couldn't believe it!!!!

As she said, all of us have issues with our bodies.

Yes, we all have issues with our bodies and it seems we always want more and are never satisfied. I wish we could all just be happy with ourselves!

Sometimes I think the extra thin have bigger issues than the extra large. It must be almost impossible to maintain that small size. I bet they dont eat a meal more than once a month. Most of them must get so sick eventually. I think they are very silly, but saying that, I know that when I am with skinny fashionable and trendy people I feel so ugly and huge and defeated. This is wrong because what they look like is unatural and dangerous. I should feel glad I am large and more normal. But as long as the magazines and media show these waifs as being beautiful, and normal women as being ugly, I think I, and a lot of other women, will always feel bad about ourselves.

I went to Kohl's one time and there was this lady with her two girls and her husband or boyfriend. We were near the junior's section, and I was proud because I was actually finding stuff that fit. She was talking about she'd gained so much weight and held up a size S and said this is what i was last year. Then she held up another size, probably a M, and said "This is what I am now" in a really disgusted-b*chy sort of way.

I wanted to punch her.

Yes, there are always things people want to change about themselves, sometimes no matter what other people think.

I had to chuckle at this blog. I have a petite friend who is always joining Weight Watcher's. If she loses anymore weight I won't be able to find her. She's not anorexic but she looks great the way she is.

By the way. What is a BCBG store?
