Protecting Our SparkFamily Haven!

Friday, August 21, 2009

Apologies to anyone who might have already seen this posted elsewhere by me, but I feel so strongly about this I feel I can't repeat it enough!

Always, ALWAYS whenever you come across something on the SparkPeople website that you think is inappropriate, shocking, questionable, do not hesitate to click on "report inappropriate post" / SparkPage / whathaveyou...the SP techies are VERY quick to take action!

I feel HIGHLY defensive of our online "haven" here and want to do all I can to keep unsavory elements out! We have a positive, constructive, supportive and SAFE place here so let's all work together to keep up our SparkNeighborhood Watch so we can KEEP it that way!

Don

PS...Perhaps I should clarify, as I am VERY accepting of the wide range of lifestyles out there and HARDLY mean to suggest any targeting or censoring of people who are not of the mainstream. I am referring to posts, blogs, SparkPages which

---someone is hawking, marketing, selling a product or service.
---contains sexually explicit text / pictures.
---contains text / pictures of harm or threats of harm toward others.

If one sees something that makes you uneasy, squirming in some way, report it and let those running SparkPeople determine whether or not this is appropriate for our community.

Okay. It's good to have guidelines from an involved Sparker. Fortunately, I've yet to come across such examples. If I do, I'll promptly advise SparkPeople.

I'm not sure I agree. I mean- if someone attacks ME too often- then I will tell the company. But I love the full range of expression here- and I figure if somebody prays for me and tells me to find Jesus etc, I can delete and not read it. After all, what's 'offensive' to one person, is a blessing to another.
    Like that.
Wild dyke AddGnostic anti-Christian profanity laden wyman that I am- I keep it to my own group, and we love it. So... what are you REALLY worried about? I guess, I say absolutely NO to fat hate... but I see it way too often on peoples pages to sweat it too much. I say NO to being mean... or bigotry. Or, or, er, what are you refering to? Not freedom of speech?

PS To YOUR ps... yeah! I can totally agree with your added provisos. I just had to speak up about the morality police- or the people who think we shouldn't talk politics, or whatever. Thanks for the clarification!
