I wish this was a funny entry, but it is far from it. Some of you know that I have a son named Mike with multiple disabilities. He lives in a group home. Last week I got a call from an urgent care about Mike. I was asked about treatment for Mike but was given no information. I called the house immediately and found out that he had taken a bite of a burger and choked stopped breathing and had the Heimlich performed on him 3x. He had been complaining about his teeth hurting and what they figured was he refused to chew.
The Dr. said soft foods from then on and that he was doing okay and no broken ribs. Thursday he refused to eat, Friday the same thing. Thursday and Friday I was working with nursing trying to get him in to see a dentist and getting pain medication. Friday evening we were able to get pain meds. and antibiotics. Saturday morning I get a call that he refused to eat, drink or swallow pain meds. The nurse and I agreed that he needed to go to the ER.
I was told he was severely dehydrated by the Dr. there and had BAD gingivitis. He was given two bags of liquid through an IV and seemed better.
Yesterday he saw his new Dr. (a new story by itself) the Dr. said hes doing okay. I found out he is still refusing to eat and barely drinking anything. The aides are pushing liquids.
Wednesday he will be seeing a dentist on an emergency bases. Hopefully they will be able to help.
During this I've been eating horribly not taking care of myself. My emotions are so messed up that at times I feel numb. I was hardly able to walk (because of my knee) but during the last couple of days the pain went away. After the Dr.'s visit yesterday the pain came back. Does anyone have an explanation?
